Do you use WASD or the arrow keys? Why is WASD even an option? Why are arrow keys so superior? Questions like these and more can be posted here, as well as lots of answers! Give your opinion on these basic movement controls below!
It all depends on the game really. If I am playing a game that requires the mouse and keyboard I will use WASD but if its just keyboard I will use the Arrow Keys.
Most of the games I play here are action/shooter types, like the Raze series. Because of that, I have become partial to the WASD system even though I'm right hand dominant. Even in games where the mouse is not required, I find that WASD is nice for giving my left hand a place to rest on the keyboard, and for keeping my right hand ready in case I need to use the mouse for some reason.
I also find it convenient when a game has "dual controls," or in other words responds to WASD and/or arrows. This allows me to continue playing even if I suddenly have to blow my nose or swat a bug. This also acts as a nice back-up in case of hand cramps.
Even know I'm right handed WASD is much more comfortable to me. Since I used to be an intense FPS player it has become a habit to me. Arrow keys are just as good to me though. The only problem in the flash world is that keyboard is disabled in fullscreen. **** you adobe!
I'm right handed, but I use mostly WASD over arrow keys. I think that when you use the arrow keys, your hand get off the keyboard, and isn't comfortably installed for pressing other keys. In fact, the only times I use arrows keys are when it's not configurable and I have to use WASD on a AZERTY keyboard, which is the worst ever.
At first I was using arrow keys and thought that WASD is dumbest idea ever. I mean why would anyone use it when there are so many other keys around and it's so easy to make mistake and press one of them instead? But some time later I used (probably was forced by game with no arrows option) WASD and I was like: /)^3^(\\ It's soooo much better not to have to twist your left arm in unnatural way to reach arrow keys. Plus Q and E are so easy to reach if needed.
Why is WASD even an option?
What kind of silly question is that? Try any FPS with arrow keys and then try WASD. You'll never come back. And for games that don't require mouse: 1. there are left handed people 2. after using mouse + WASD for some time arrows become unnatural even for right handed people.
Why are arrow keys so superior?
They're not. Once you go WASD you never go back to old ways of twisted arm and no extra keys around for all those mapable options.
I hold the mouse with my right hand, so I prefer WASD in games that require the mouse. I find that using arrow keys in such games is awkward and irritating because I have to bend my left arm to reach them. On games that don't use the mouse, I prefer using the arrow keys with my right hand because I don't have to rest my thumb on the spacebar as with WASD. In other words, basically the same opinion as the preceding poster.
