As I drummer this is one of the main things I ever think about. I want to know who other drummers or people think is the best drummer. Please do not just say a name please say why you think this person is the best of the best.

Here is my list:
It is in no specific order
1. Keith Moon - The Who
This guy plays the drums as an instrument not a time keeper
2. Buddy Rich
He paved the road for drummers
3. Tre Cool - Green Day
This guys is my idol. He has so much energy and flies in the drums.

You can comment on other peoples favorite drummers but keep the feedback positive.

eh todd hanson is good but like death metal drummers are kind of just playing useless nonsense. like its just speed, no technique

One of my personal favorites is Lance Garvin, of "Living Sacrifice." I just love the brutal style he adds to their music, mainly in their most recent material - their beginnings were somewhat mediocre in my opinion. Plus, it's difficult for hardcore drummers to let some talent shine through, and not just go with the standard repetitive sound that most heavy metal bands produce.

Like deloss said above metal drummers are more speed than technique and ability.

not to say that there arent amazingly talented drummers in the metal genre who arent technically skilled.

mike portnoy, dave lambardo, thomas haake, lars ulrich, vinnie paul, all VERY techincally knowledged drummers.

1.Lars Ulrich(Metallica)

For some reason I have to say that John Dolmayan is a very talented modern metal drummer both in the metal category and in technical drumming.

Yeah I guess he is good but I like it when bands have some sort of style that divides them from the others. I am not a fan of bands that scream the whole time bands that scream and sing are ok but after a while all those bands with pounding drums shredding guitar and screaming men sound the same.

i guess you just got to listen to it more. like alot of people think rocks sounds the same too. and country. the more you listen to something the more you hear.

like when you hang out with twins, sometimes you dont know the difference, but the more you hang out with them you then start to see the differneces

Yeah it's like that with me for a lot of songs. I have to listen to them a few times to like them.
