Movie reference)
I remember watching a movie where a teenager purchased some kind of kit that brought those little sea creatures alive but it didn't work properly then he cloned himself.
They were in the same place as well. After some time though the clone started to act differently from the original. It's just a movie reference though. It would be interesting to actually see it happen.

Well think about if you were in the corner of say your living room and your thinking about what you are seeing, then think about what you would think if you were in the complete opposite side of the room, you would have different thoughts because of what you are seeing. Also if you want something more to the topic wouldn't you think differently knowing you were the clone instead of being the clonie?

I think i'm going to go with, do you even have a soul? There's really no proof of it, it's something you can't see, can't touch, can't measure, but yet...religion claims it's there. I'm going to go with this.

A clone would NOT act like the original, since we are shaped by our experiences. The clone would be "born" completely uneducated, with little or no motor control, since that is a learned skill for the most part. It would be just like a newborn, and depeneding on how you raise it that is how it would act.

That's an interesting question. If people actually had clones, the clones would probably be looked down upon in society and given jobs that "natural" people didn't want to do. Basically, I think that people would assume that the clones didn't have souls and use that as an excuse to exploit them.

well, seeing as to ssoomme people (looks off at sooomeone lol jk) seem to think starwars and clones, i just thought i'd let you know this is a totally real thing, i've heard that if you have the right equipment, anyone can do it, it's just totally illegal in the U.S. Anyways, cloning is like putting a human in a giant printer, so to speak. (except in real life they take D.N.A. from different parts of your body)As i was saying, when you put a piece of paper with a picture, of lets say a monkey in the printer, and hit copy, an exact copy comes out (unless there was a fatal error) so i think it would be you, until you take your seperate ways, then it would change its personality, so to speak. And in my opinion, a personality is the definition of soul, so i think that clones do have souls.

P.S. this is just a more explanatory and complex version of my previous post.

I know.
But, for that split second when they are cloned from you and if they can only see you the both would probably be thinking the same thing. After some time they will wander around noticing all different things and start thinking for their own.
Also if you want something more to the topic wouldn't you think differently knowing you were the clone instead of being the clonie?

I would if I was moving around a bit. But as said on my last statement above if the two are cloned an only see each-other it's still a split second of same thinking. In time they will differ though.
Couldn't really say though unless someone actually clones a human being then observing them.

You all seem to be thinking of clones as like instant division, poof, you have a clone standing right next to you.

No, that's not how it works. A clone is an organism sharing the exact same DNA as another. This has NOTHING to do with anything else.

A clone would be a newborn, it would never be the same age as you (Unless they have a way to drastically speed growth) and upon "Birth" would be a newborn, no matter the size (unless we also learn how to teach people while they are an embryo...)They would be nothing alike except in how they look, and even then there would be differences, scars, tan, shade of hair color, amount of hair, etc. I do not think that there is such thing as a soul, so no problem there.

I see a "soul" as personality, reputation, how other people think of you and your personal experiences. Which means I don't believe in souls, but, if the above is what a soul is defined as and a clone is a replicated being that lives a life of it's own then yes, it has a soul. Albeit a different one to the one it was cloned from.

Your clones base personality and body ad everything would be the same as you. But everything you do can influence your growth and personalty. When your clone turns 20 they are not going to have done every thing you have and therefore they will probably have a different personality. But their common Interests throughout their life are more than likely going to lean toward what yours were, because you know, you both have the exact same brain and thought processes.

Oh and if by soul you mean a magical thing that animates your body then there is no such thing.

yes, I think clones have souls. just like twins have, even if they origin from the same cell. however, it may be a little like the original, because nature/nurture. nurture may be different, but nature is the same.

At the moment there's not really a conclusive study out there with Nurture/nature, the closest I know of is a twin study where they found identical twins that had been seperated at birth, and tested their IQs, and their IQs correlated with something like a 68% average.

However, whilst we follow ethics, there's many questions that could be easily answered, but won't be :P

Would clones have a conscience? I think that would be a question more people can relate too. Picture the movie "Pet Cemetery." If by soul you mean personality, emotion or feeling, the answer would probably be yes.

However the only way to truely answer the question would be to see a successfully cloned human, which most likely won't be happening anytime soon.
