I got asked this question yesterday by one of my friends, and I honestly couldn't answer. So what is it? What is time? It is one of those things you rarely think about, but is so pertinent to our everday lives.
Time is man made (in order to be recorded) and is just a passage through a series of events. Whether we "invented it", created a measurement for it, or recorded time, it would still function as it naturally happens.
Okay, so you are saying that time is a man made thing that records the passing of events through out space and on Earth. Interesting...
Now what if I were to tell you that at absolute zero, which is the lowest temperature that can ever be created, time slows? What would that tell you? It tells me that there is more to time than just the recording of events, and that it is not man made. Temperature, at a low enough degree, will cause time to slow. That does not sound like something synthetic does it? Man did not create time, time has always been here. How, I don't know. That is why I am asking.

It does not slow down, but anything put there becomes stopped. In Australia, I think they have a lab where it is at absolute zero and anything put there will be stopped in its tracks. I don't think time adheres to that.
Time is susceptible to gravity and other forces like anything else. The density of time is also effected. So like if you saw someone get sucked into a black hole you would see the person getting sucked in in slow motion because the density of time in the gravitational field is lower than the time that isn't. So like 1 second for the person at the edge of the black hole could be months or years for everyone outside.
Time is there but "Time" is just a given name. idk
It really doesn't. Time is not relative to movement, speed, mass, what have you. It's in its own realm that cannot be affected. Even if all civilization stops recording time, it still goes on. It's nothing more than passage through events.

Einfach, that is just a mathematical formula showing that time influences how fast an object is moving. Time influences factors, but the factors do not influence time. T = D/R is irrelevant as well. All it shows is "if I moved this fast and reached this spot, then I must have moved X amount of time". It has nothing to do with what time is and I have given the definition. Mine at least. I dunno what dictionary.com has.

Meh, time doesn't slow matter just goes in a low energy state due to the loss of it's own energy. It's like saying that freezing water also freeze time around the water. Which makes no sense since time doesn't exist because it's just a human construction.
Why these threads keep popping up is a complete mystery to me since there are more interesting things in the real works then human constructions of measurement. Merging black holes would of been a more interesting topic. Or quantum physics and it's applications in biology and technology.

lol. I agree with everything you said, Darkroot, except for this. Even if man didn't "invent" time, the passage of it would still be prevalent and the beginning and ending of events would still happen. Just because the measurement of time wasn't created doesn't mean we wouldn't be frozen in it.

Depends to what it's relative to. We are frozen in time when you take into context the endlessness of the universe. We exist only in a minuscule portion of it thus frozen in time.
