In my opinion, it is very overrated. Out of 10, I would give it a 3.

I got the God of War Collection for Christmas. I hadn't bothered with it until recently, because I had other games to play.

Anyways...

All the reviews of the game say its really good. I don't see why.

Most of the game is combat, and most of the combat is mashing the square button. Its so **** repetitive, I just beat the Hydra boss and I'm already "quitting" it because I just don't have any more motivation to keep playing, because I know what the rest of the game will be like. Just mash the square button and watch stuff die.

I don't want to try God of War 2, since I figure it'll be the same as the first.

Anyways, that's my opinion. Does anyone else think God of War is way overrated, or do you disagree, and why? Please leave an intelligent and thorough response, don't post "lol yeh god of wer is overated" or "no u ****ing noob god of wer is awsom".

I found God of War to be my favorite PS2 game. I enjoyed the combat system because every time there was a new enemy there was a new way to kill it. And I found the boss fights to be both interesting and fun. The game is also more than combat, there is a fairly strong puzzle element involved. I love doing puzzles so that helped me stay interested. Another thing I like was the story and the way Kratos was portrayed, he isn't your average hero and the story is a little different than most. As for the second one I thought it was a good addition to the story and continued the puzzles. I just wish I had a PS3 so I could play the third one.

well then maybe you should try and do cool combos and moves by NOT button mashing the squre button.

its an amazing game, amazing graphics, amazing plot, EVEN MORE AMAZING voice acting, great sound track, the game play is a bit simple but made up for with lots of fun puzzles and all the stuff above

It's like complaining about StarFox64 because all you do is hold down the A button to shoot the entire game.

Soooo true.. GOW was amazing.. you don´t always mash the button that´s bull, Usually it´s only for some enemies and bosses..

You need to understand that there are combos.. and GOW2 Is even better.. And don't get me started with the 3rd.

You do understand that there is a triangle button right? And that you can do epic combos against the other enemies right? Do you realize you can do epic air combos? Honestly I found GOW to be one of the best games I've ever seen and played. Mostly because you can kill the bosses in different ways like decapitating one boss and slamming the next one into a wall. The game doesn't go overboard with puzzles and it doesn't really make the puzzles so hard that you'll spend hours on one. Now I can't wait for the next God of War game.

Well, it all matters what types of games you like. After all, it's not like everyone's gonna like Pokemon: Soul Silver or Call Of Duty: Modern Warefare 2. There will always be someone out there who doesn't like a certain game.

God of War's combat expands way BEYOND pressing square. Press the start button once or twice, maybe upgrade those weapons and check out some combos. Also you seem to be dissapointed taht the game is focused around combat. Teh game is called "God of War" for a reason, and its not all the harshness of Warfare, the games also hold a multitude of puzzles taht parallels with teh strategy of war.
