Dictatorship can be good depending who the dictator is. A dictator could run a country fairly put on appropriate taxes, and create a strong economy sort of like Hitler did. He was a good leader at first rebuilding an entire nation, and then he went down hill the power went to his head.

thats why i think fascism would work if you could find an uncorruptable leader... which doesnt exist :/

Amen, I agree with that completely. It's a shame that is no uncorrupt leaders out there except for perhaps Stephen Harper the Canadian Prime Minister

there are leaders that arent corrupt.. but they would get corrupted if they were the sole leader of a country :/

While that is a good probability you have no way of knowing if that's true.

Hey you never know if some of those uncorrupted leaders are placed as dictators things could get better. But your probably right about it'd be best not to test it.

Rome elected Dictators, giving them absolute power, in periods of distress for only six years. The problem was, they didn't want to give up the power.

That became problematic towards the end of the Republic. It worked well for centuries.

Anyway, I don't really care about Mubarak, more about ensuring that Egypt makes a clean transition to the democracy it wants. Of course that means I don't want it to become another Iran.

Good for the people throwing out the dictator. Sure, he isn't renowned for genocide, but he was corrupt and unfair nonetheless.

No such thing as a perfect leader. History teaches that lesson too many times.

There has been a lot of talk about "violent riots" in this thread. The protestors weren't being violent. That's the beauty of this. They didn't fight.

I'm sorry what? Did you miss the part where the government "supporters" started attacking those who were against Mubarak? Or, how about the attacks on reporters and journalists?

lol...yeah only in times of a crisis, and the last elected one was "technically" Julius Caesar who didn't give up his power. Furthermore some of the later Emperor's were nothing but glorious figure heads who had no power whatsoever.

Don't forget those few people that were "detained". At least it wasn't a full scale rebellion.
