I do not feel obliged to believe that the same God who has endowed us with sense, reason, and intellect has intended us to forgo their use.

Galileo Galilei

I think that this statement by Galileo may be one of the best quotes ever. It sums up why even a man of science can believe there is a god, and that even a man who is religious can be an intelligent man, because god made us with intelligence and he expects us to use it.

How is it then when I use my sense, reason and intelligence I find there likely isn't a God?

Since this started with a quote.

"I cannot see how a man of any large degree of humorous perception can ever be religious -- unless he purposely shut the eyes of his mind & keep them shut by force." -Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain)

Oooh Galileo quotes! YAY! Here's my favorite, which I also find to be very, very true:

"It vexes me that they (the Church) would constrain science by the authority of the Scriptures, yet do not consider themselves bound to answer reason and experiment."

One of my favorites by him, and if the latter half were put into practice I believe it would be the end of religion and superstition.

I think Galileo only believes God only made the universe and laws, then left it.

god made us with intelligence and he expects us to use it.

And yet, by using it, we condemn ourselves to hell because we do not believe in that which cannot be suggested, and you cannot empirically suggest the existence of God.

What's your scientific proof?

God gave us free will, so he doesn't expect you to do anything.

What's your scientific proof?

There is no direct scientific proof of a lack of a deity, that's impossible.. but there's a ton of knowledge showing how everything works just fine without any deity. And there is absolutely no proof of existence of a deity. So it's very likey there is none. That's how I see Mage's point.

God gave us free will, so he doesn't expect you to do anything.

He may not except anything, but since reasoning, logic and the quest for truth is opposed to faith, those endowed with intellect are automatically banned from heaven if they make the mistake to use that godly gift. Doesn't really make sense right?

The burden of proof is on those claiming the existence of god/s. Ever heard of occam's razor? There is no reason to insert god as an explanation for anything so it is illogical to believe in god.

God gave us free will, so he doesn't expect you to do anything.

John 20:29 Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
It is not a question of what god predicts you will do, but what the judeo-christian god encourages and how it contradicts the scientific methodology. Blessed are those who have not observed the properties of electricity and yet believe in them.

It is impossible for a christian to uphold the ideologies of science without refusing to apply the same ideologies to his own religion, for when you do, you find that there is nothing to suggest the existence of god.

Both be accurate in my meaning.

God gave us free will, so he doesn't expect you to do anything.

Then there is no point in laying down commandments if he doesn't expect us to follow them.

Or even worship him, pray to him, and declarest ye Lord and Savior. If there are no expectations...why make any?

Are you sure? Isn't this jumping to conclusions?

For instance, you can show an argument is fallacious.

Well, for instance you can quite surely proove that the christian god like he is in the bible doesn't exist by prooving that things like noah's arch are impossible. But you will never proove the inexistence of any random deity floating somewhere in space light-years away from here.
