Are we loving or dreading Valentine's Day this year?
I'm personally avoiding it like the plague. Which is a little ironic seeing as I have something like the flu at the moment and I feel like I have the plague. My parents each have special evenings planned with their partners, my friends are all out with their partners, there's even some inter-colleague dating going on at work. I'm just hoping I wake up feeling worse tomorrow so I can ditch college and spend time wrapped up on the sofa with Johnny Depp DVD after Johnny Depp DVD. And ice-cream. Lots of ice-cream.
Worst part about it is these disgusting Spotify ads that have appeared recently. Spotify is, like, a music player that streams all the music, and in some countries you can listen to it for free, but will occasionally have to listen to advertisement between songs. Anyways, most of these adverts really make you feel uncomfortable.
I don't watch that much TV nowadays, but I can imagine it's no better there.
After I have... gotten better, I just wonder why people need an excuse to make a night special for their partner. A bit like waiting till New Years to start over or start new. I don't mind it much, I have school for a few hours, and then I can go home and do nothing, as usual. Probably wash some clothes... Write some of the stuff I still haven't for the WoM.
I'm not so bitter about V-Day as I make out to be but I've never celebrated it before and I don't intend to celebrate it in the future. Like you say, Cen, couples shouldn't need a whole day dedicated to their togetherness!
V-Day is also quite cruel to those lonely, hopeless hearts..
I kinda did celebrate it, back then, but not it is just the day before the birthday of one of my characters (obviously much more important than real life stuff, right?) And, well, it does have a few good things: Chocolate gets a bit cheaper, uhm... Okay, one good point.
Where I am, Valentines Day only means, well, paper cards and chocolate. Now, I appreciate chocolate, so I'm not really avoiding it. Oh, and iMogwai, I don't have to suffer the TV of V-Day, because I don't have one. Everyone gasps when I say that... XD
Valentines Day is nice if people ask you for it, if you have a boyfriend or if people give you presents. It isn't nice if you have nobody, you're the only one who doesn't get a card etc:P
Fortunately for me, i have a boyfriend, so i like it! It's a good excuse to say let's eat outside:P So we're going to a greek restaurant. Mjam!
I think I'll copy what I wrote in the slightly older V-Day thread:
Valentine's Day is anyway only there to torture singles and extract money from the couples. People who really love one another don't need an official occasion to show it.
Of course, since I never had someone up to now, I might have a slight personal grudge against it ^^ but all the (commercial) fuss that is being made around it annoys the cra.p out of me (just like christmas or Easter)
It is strange to me you talking about V-Day now because V-Day is only in June in my country :P I have time to think about it... I don't know what would be my situation until this day and I think it is just a day that you have to spend more money than the others.
What I see Valentines Day as is the day where I'm able to get random people I ring up at work to give me candy :P I mean they buy a whole bunch of bags of candy and I say "that's for me, right?" and they just give me one. I never expected it to work and yet there I am with a huge stash of candy :P
I laughed at about 5 couples in the hallway today. Its so funny how they think they'll be spending the rest of their lives together when they'll just break up in a week.
