No funding from the government, fully taken over by private businesses. However, I would assume under such a system the government would pay for certain people to be educated, kind of like food stamps for education.

Well the most basic problem is that the government would not be able to force people into attending school because they would have to come up with some type of payment. This would lead to a population with less overall intelligence, obviously a very bad thing.

So? What's the problem with having dumb people in a society? The government already does a terrible job with it. I'm pretty sure that competition between companies would make the result in the best education.

Eventually you would cause a decrease in GDP do to a lack of new ideas, high unemployment rates due to high rates of individuals who can only be in the working class, and social welfare dependence. And, of course, the side effect of having a dumber society.

True, I mean look at American post secondary education, it's fantastic; however, a high school degree is important in creating positive members of society and while those who attended school may be more intelligent we would have a huge number of individuals without any degree to speak of.
Then they wouldn't be forced to, which is their right from the start anyway.
It shouldn't be, why exactly would I want to pay to support an individual who never attended any schooling? And why would I want to live in a country full of idiots? I wouldn't. America would lose its intellectuals and it's economic and political edge.
