I like the idea that the OP mentioned. It's much more easier to do and more convenient.
I have a program at my public school where I can choose to go to the actual school or do the work at home on my laptop. They give me a disk then I download the work and complete it.
email is a great idea! although this now presents the problem of having every kid and staff member at every school having to have an email address, also, they would have to be all school based, that way there is no accidental forwarding of messages that the staff wouldn't care about. so great idea? yes practical?probably not
Post-secondary institutions such as universities and colleges already have in place this type of submission method where there is a specially designated website for each institution where students can log into and see all work and assignments for each course and some even allow you submit through the site--but never through e-mails for apparent reasons.
Elementary and secondary students should not have this feature implemented because not all students have or have the ability to afford a computer. And even if they do then they more than likely will be distracted by their computer (=less productivity) and be mesmorized by the Internet for literally hours on end whereas they should be outside getting their full exercise and have real fun on a daily or weekly basis (=less healthy).
Leave the serious brain-crunching to when you go to university and/or college and with that the technology idea is all I meant to say.
Well... the reason I asked is because we do kinda have that kind of thing at my school but I don't know if I should print out all of my assignments, do them by hand and then mail them to my teachers or just do everything on the computer.
At my school you can email your essays to the English teacher. Same goes for a lot of the classes, homework can be sent via email if you're going to be absent, are absent etc. I know my teachers especially are very good with replying to the students emails about questions, homework, so on. In one class, we are trying out a new website where all our homework is virtual, it's pretty neat.
I think homework has become far too apart of the system. It's a great tool for teachers to use-if they have no time in class to teach something. Other than that, it should be optional for review. Really, getting handed pages of worksheets, spending 2 hours on looking up basic facts, and then turning them in for completion points is NOT learning, that's regurgitation. Honestly, how many of you remember reading a book out of context, compared to hearing a teacher in class give a lecture, comparing and contrasting examples, while helping you form connections on what it might mean? It's ridiculous how focused we've become on homework.
As for the internet doing it, that's fine, saves paper, instant submission, can't leave it on your desk or claim the dog ate it. So long as it isn't web assign...buggiest thing i've ever seen, every assignment i've ever gotton from it has had AT LEAST one question with a wrong answer or selection of questions, which the teacher then spends time finding out which were wrong and should be ignored.
This happens with assigments at my school, but not homework. If you're sick it's up to you to catch up.
Unless you have cancer or pneumia or something in which case email may help, and so would getting off your *** and speaking to the teacher and saying "Yo ***** I'm sick I ain't doing that crap"

The school I go to is too poor to afford a laptop for each child apparently.. Though it'd be a horrible investment anyway considering the lack of responsibility that's obvious.
We have a class set (26) computers for each team. Plus the library and computer lab computers. We are also thinking about MAYBE getting an ipod/ipad/isomething cart. This is something the people in student counsel have thought was a good idea.
Plus, EVERY staff member except for the costodians has their own computers that. We also have cameras and flashdrives that you can borrow just like books. These are one nighters though.
