Well, I was searching to see if this was already made, but the searches didn't show a thread with my idea so here it is. I am making this thread so we can have a typical tavern discussion thread for all things science! Basically, a thread for everything science! Ranging from discussions about laws and theories, scientific debate, breakthroughs, discussion about new scientific breakthroughs, certain scientists/philosophers, and all that good stuff!
So go out there and let out your inner science! ;P
To get us going somewhere I'll start: what do you think the future holds for technology? I think our knowledge will allow us to overcome the obstacles thrown at us in the future, I mean, we have discovered so much and have come so far!

My friend and I (mostly him) thought it up. The device will work and it will be an electric symphony.

Here's what wiki has on zero point energy. How does yours work?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-point_energy

An unsolved problem.
"Why doesn't the zero-point energy density of the vacuum change with changes in the volume of the universe? And related to that, why doesn't the large constant zero-point energy density of the vacuum cause a large cosmological constant? What cancels it out?"

It works mainly on sound. Not at liberty to explain further.

Sound is just air molecules being vibrated, that would have any effect on spacetime.

It wouldn't be zero point energy unless solar power is zero point.
Besides, the universe is whispering to me to do it.

Sounds like you talking about something completely different now. And can I have some of what your smoking?

No, same thing. I'll ask my coconspirators if I can go into detail.

Mage, today EVERYBODY can have some of what I'm smoking.

I think your best to do so, what you seem to be alluding at sounds pretty fishy.

In the meantime, what do you guys think of NANO technology.

You get energy and anti-matter but you don't get matter.

I disagree. You get matter, otherwise it would be a violation of Law of conservation of Energy and that is also a parity violation.

My accomplice said no. I have to wait until we get one built and all that.

Also, dair, you ruined our all goldness.

I think it's a worthwhile endeavor that could be useful in many fields.

Naw, he did not. I was getting tired of sci-fi weaponry.

Agreed with Mage, on this one.

For the nanotech newbies
Basically, manipulation of matter on an atomic scale.

Who here played OGame?

Nope...

My answer in science is OGame.

So you're going to let a video game be your only outlet to the scientific world? What happened to inspiration, then thinking for yourself?

Supa, check the ranks on the last page.

I think nanotech can be a great bane or a terrible boon.
Too powerful and thus too dangerous. If it were not for humanity's idiocy, nanotech would be a very good tool, but idiots will use it in a very idiotic way.
**** YOU HUMANITY!!!!!!!

What about 'em?

Too powerful and thus too dangerous. If it were not for humanity's idiocy, nanotech would be a very good tool, but idiots will use it in a very idiotic way.

Same goes for any and all technology. We have so many morons, yet, as a whole we still take great risk. If we don't takes risks then what...

It would be so much easier if we go do away with morons... But that's cruel and inhumane :P

Now if somehow everyone became smarter, yay for science!

Notice the one rank that doesn't fit?

I say we teach the public about Darwinian evolution by weeding out the dumb and malformed, not by concentration camps and mass "cleansing" of the populace, but by not giving them every little thing they ask for. Hot coffee is hot, if you don't know that, YOU DESERVE TO BE BURNED!!!
