Has anyone played through the game Prior? It's brand new on the site, and as of writing, it only has about 5k plays. I enjoy story based platforming games, so I really enjoyed the game, but I feel like the story could have been better developed. What are your thoughts on it?
I just played through it once and got one possible end.
It is pretty strange, but once you get enough of the story and at one point, you find out the main scientist is regretting a new weapon meant to save them, but it affects both sides.
In my mind, it seems to be about a nuclear weapon, casualties in the millions and on one city is a big clue.
There seems to be no way to edit my post, so sorry for the double post (mods, please just merge this one to my post above) as it's something that I thought of after I pressed 'ost'
Generally, I'm not a real big fan of platforming games, but this one makes things very easy and there are maybe two slightly tricky spots, but otherwise it's easy.
I love story-based games. I wish there were more around, instead of the usual "all-action, no substance" games people rave about. I love experiencing the character as the story develops. That being said, Prior should have been given more thought. I think investigating rooms instead of jumping up and down platforms make better environments for "setting the story".
To avoid spoilers here, my guess about the weapon being a nuke wasn't correct, at least not entirely correct as the psychological effects seem to have been the same.
I don't know if there are other possible endings, but in my opinion the ending I got wasn't really good, teh game ended unexpectedly. maybe I didn't get the point, but I didn't see any reason why the game just should end when you reach the bottom floor.
I enjoyed the game, although it reminded me a lot of K.O.L.M. Both games require upgrades in order to reach different parts of the room, and and the way you had to move from room to room was also very similar. It was quite annoying having to play the game three times in order to get all the endings. I've read a lot of posts discussing confusion with the plot. From completing all three endings and finding all of the notes, this is what I was able to put together: I found notes concerning the @73 serum being used to create the ultimate weapon, I am assuming in order to combat the notorious white blocks. Anyways, I also found notes (I am presuming) from the doctor about how the side effects of the serum gave the test subject amnesia and caused him to become uncontrollably violent. I found that he turned on those who supervised him. In an attempt to gain control of him, they reunited him with his family; but he somehow managed to kill them. I also found a picture of the doctor receiving a medal for serving his country, and notes from him discussing his remorse over the new "weapon" having killed so many people, including the ones that the "weapon" was invented to protect. As a result of his remorse over all of this, the doctor committed suicide and wrote his apology in blood. Right before leaving the facility and watching the city in the background being bombed, I found a note to the subject letting him know that there is nothing he can do to change what happened and what will happen. Anyways, this is my interpretation of the story for the game.
Also, the feel of both the plot, the game, and the endings, leads me to conclude that there will be a sequel. After all, why have us piece all of these small clues together (much like the piecing together of lost or forgotten memories), and leave us hanging, unless there were to be a sequel to form the catharsis, fill in the gaps, or continue the story?
I played it, and I found 1 ending. I enjoy these storyline/artistic games, actually. There was an air of creepiness throughout, especially when you got to the confinement room. It kind of annoyed me how the notes only gave you a small piece of information at a time, but maybe I'm just impatient. I found the ending very inconclusive. I didn't find any answers at all. So maybe I'll find the other endings and maybe I'll find out more.
I really enjoyed the game, it was quite a lot of fun playing it. The only problem is that I still don't know everything.
The endings are: 1. "Subject &#!" killed his family and gets stuck in a hole. 2. "Subject &#!" escapes to "City XY*213". 3. "Subject &$!" finds "Dr. +/G", who killed himself because he felt guilty of creating a terrible weapon.
This has something to do with "Chemical @73" I guess &#! is the weapon...
I have gotten two ending so far. The one with the dead doc, with "I am sorry too" in blood on the wall and the nuke one. If you pay close attention to the nuke one, the nuke goes off right where your little dude is standing and then the city goes back to normal when you move. I would guess that is the indication that you were the destructive weapon that killed everyone. I don't get the dead doc one though.
@Tanais Yeah, there are other suggestions. Have you read my post in this forum concerning my theory on the plot? I agree with your guess that &#! is the weapon, but I based my interpretation of the plot based off of all three endings and all of the notes. Aside from my interpretation, I've read posts on the game with people who think that the nuking of the city ending is actually subject &#! being killed. This also is a feasible theory, but I don't think that was supposed to be what actually happened. My first reason is that the city is in the background. It appears to be in the distance. I doubt subject &#! made it to the city before it got nuked that quickly. My second reason is based off of my first play through. The nuking of the city was the first ending I found, and completed. When I found it, I was on my way towards exiting the screen on the left. Then I turned back because I knew I had not explored other areas; I was being indecisive. When I turned back, I witnessed the nuking of the city. It really took the point of the note you find right before that home for me. Anyways, I obviously witnessed the nuking of the city without actually being there. If I had wanted, I could have gone back through the other screens to find a different area. Now, I may have glitched this ending. Which is why other users could be correct in their theory. (In which case, my prediction for a sequel would be shot, still I did find a comment on the creator's site that made it sound like there could be more development in the story with future games) The second theory I have found from other people, is that the nuke was the weapon. I highly disagree with this because from the notes, I was led to believe the following: that the @73 serum was developed to create a new weapon, it was to be used on a test subject, &#! is the subject who was tested, one of the side effects was amnesia, and another side affect was that the subject became highly aggressive (leading to him attacking some of the research team and kill his own family) These are the theories that I have come across so far. As far as detailed theories of the plot, I have yet to find one. I would like to know what story others may have come up with (i.e., if they are different from mine)from finding all three endings and reading all of the notes.
