I think there should be minus ratings available for game ratings. This is because you can set up criteria for your own rating system. Like games that copy other games. That is like a -10 for me. Games that have original ideas, +10.

Sometimes I end up with a negative number but the lowest score on the rating is 0.5. There's no way to voice disgust with people who just copy from others. Why can't they think of their own stuff? I bet they wouldn't do it if there games got a negative score.

Honestly, I don't think the creator cares much about the score they get on AG but I can't speak on peoples behalf.
Maybe they're trying to be creative as well, interpret the game in a different way, but it seems to be a copy to other users.
Rating a game out of twenty doesn't really seem like a good idea either, maybe if it went to +5 and -5 it would work out better.

Yes I can where you're coming from. But other people wouldn't use the same criteria, so a negative score wouldn't tell the developer that their game was considered unoriginal. Some players would give -10 because the game was too hard for them or because it had a premium option or just because they didn't like the whole genre.

Introducing -10 to 10 would basically just double the range, and people would use the whole range available. So -10 in your range corresponds to 0 in the existing range.

However in a similar spirit what I'd like to be able to do is score games on multiple criteria, so there'd be separate scores for gameplay, replayability (addictiveness), originality and graphics. Something like that would really let you send a message to the developer.

I'd say a 0.5/10 rating is pretty harsh. I mean imagine a project you do at school getting 5%...

You can always report them and leave a comment, as well.

Doesn't sound like a bad idea though. Or maybe instead of 0 to 10, it could go from -5 to +5. That way, it'll be pretty obvious that 0 is an average game, anything below is bad, anything above is good. As it is now, people seem to have their own opinions of what score is an average score.

A negative number is a fundamentally-theoretical idea. A student doesn't receive negative points, aka lose points, when performing on a test. Why, when you give something, must you get something taken back, if the efforts aren't great enough? In all respect, it does not make any sense to do something like this. A developer should, at the least, be given a 0 if their work isn't strong enough. It's not "correct" to lose ratings by contributing.

What if they separated the different sections so you could rate each one, like what Ruffyl said. They do that for Yahhoo movies.

You could have negatives in the sections, like -5 to 5, but the overall score would average the sections but replace zeroes for all the negative numbers. That way no game would get a negative overall score.

If they get replaced, then why have negative scores to begin with? XD
