I, for one, feel the music of a game is VERY important. Take Raze for example: the menu music is amazing. The music in a game helps set the level of "Epicness". The Halo Series, the Call of Duty Series, and many other games have excellent music. The music is a way to remember the game. Examples: Uphill, both ways (Halo) Mask Walk (Call of Duty Black Ops) Halo them Mjolnir Mix(Halo) And many more...
BGM is important in any entertainment product. Movies, games, anything. It's important mostly for setting the mood in the scene. Without BGM, the scenes would just be flat, and boring.
On the same token, the absence of sound will also help create suspense.
I agree with the points above. I find it that music and sound effects can add greatly to the experience of playing a game, but badly executed score certainly won't stop me from having fun, if the game mechanics itself are rewarding and fun to play with.
No music is better than having bad or just inappropriate OST; great background music is still good music and a piece of art even on its own.
i love video game music and its very important. the goal of almost every video game is to take you "inside" it. make you fell like you are there and make you feel what the characters feel. anything that helps to achieve this goal like music and a good story is important
It usually depends on the game. If you take, for example, Minecraft, I think the music fits perfectly with the game. It just adds to the overall awesomeness.
I could list more, but for now, lets just say that most games wouldn't be the same without the music.
i would say it makes a huge difference. like what if you had to listen to the mario theme song during black ops....although that sounds kind of cool now that i think of it
It affects the mood alot and the epicness of a scene. If you have opera in a shooting game it wouldn't work. If you have no music it would make the game pretty dull and boring.
Very good points... Mario on Black Ops! (While playing on wii, it would seem like a jam, but on anything else, what the heck?) Ha, that's funny. I do agree that it is essential. If a game is good, but the music is bad, I guess I'd just lower the music, leaving the sound effects, and play my own, on an independant device. I am a great fan of the Halo Soundtracks: so much that they are pretty much the only music I listen too.
There was a whole mess on Bungie.net on how it was so innovative to have music flow from gameplay to cutscene back to game play in such a fluid manner, and yes, if it wasn't for video game music, the mood of the story wouldn't be properly captured. I mean, wouldn't the first couple of quests in Borderlands not have been as memorable without the simple, plucking tune in the back ground as you walked around teh arid badlands?
You can't have a game without music and sound affects, if you've ever played a game with the sound right down, it makes you feel tired for some reason. I don't know about you, but I have to have sound on games, it is an absolute must-have. Even the most boring games have music, if I bought a game without music I'd probably chuck it in the bin.
if u play halo u notice why music is important for a video game, because the soundtrack and backgroud music in the cutscene is so epic and without this it would be just a normal shooter. So it is an epic game
