I, for one, feel the music of a game is VERY important. Take Raze for example: the menu music is amazing. The music in a game helps set the level of "Epicness". The Halo Series, the Call of Duty Series, and many other games have excellent music. The music is a way to remember the game. Examples: Uphill, both ways (Halo) Mask Walk (Call of Duty Black Ops) Halo them Mjolnir Mix(Halo) And many more...
Sometimes even complete lack of music and sound fits the game quite well: Hollow Moon is an UT2004 mod that puts player in a completely soundless environment.
I can't say it is not important, but I have to admit more than 70% of the time i would listen to my own music while playing! so I love having it around but i also love having the choice to turn it off.
Teerex93, I completely agree with you. Halo music is epic. That Martin O'Donnell is my favourite composer. I own every Halo soundtrack out. To understand me, please listen:

Here's some on Halo Legends. Even though it is anime, I still love the story. And the music still rocks! Here's some
Halo Legends: Brothers in Arms: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_cvR5ucLsQ Halo Legends: Halo: (Go to 0:40 for epicness) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVmLVGu479U Halo Legends: Delta Halo Suite: (Go to 2:50) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUPRB99wd8c (I you like this, there's a Delta Halo Suite on Halo 2 Soundtrack also) Halo Legends: Sacred Icon Suite 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QKvFYQaOkw Halo Legends: The Last Spartan: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4M2F6kk9bF8 And Some I didn't mention earlier: Halo 2: High Charity Suite: (Go to 6:00 for Awesome) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXnO37mdBYU
Here's a cool Halo music video: (Blow me away, it was used in Halo 2, but is by Breaking Benjamin) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y2wk3wZUVoE&feature=related And another (Diary of Jane, also by Breaking Benjamin) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ybrCqip0o_4 This one is interesting, not Halo, but stickpage. It is played with Dairy of Jane, too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ep8PB8gcjn4
yes music is very important it sets the mood and the tone of a game have you ever played a game on mute or watched a tv show with out sound it gives the game so much more depth and the tv show depth also you can play a game and watch a movie without sound but it really sucks
It's extremely important. Yes it sets the mood like everyone is saying but the reason developers (just like movie producers do) choose cinematic music is for physcological reasons as well. The brain can recognize and reiterate memories by sounds then it can by sight. It's the reason why you can memorize a song's lyrics faster than you can memorize movie lines. If you watch the hangover a few times you can learn the majority of the lines but how much you retain for an extended period of time is daunting. If you listen to a song a few times and hear the song 10 years later, your more likely to remember it than if you watched the hangover in 10 years. So yes the BGM of any game is important because it connects you to the game and allows later recognition of the music.
music in a game is definently important because it gives you that certain mood while playing it whether it be bouncy and happy or moot and more rock. like in sonny and sonny 2, the music just flows and gets you into a mood that's awesome!
One example of the importance of video game music:
Crazy Taxi. The original had it's sound track set to The Offspring and Bad Religion. The new downloadable version for the XBOX360 doesn't have the music due to licencing issues. It really takes away from the experience.
Music is of utmost importance in the video game industry. It helps create an atmosphere/mood of a game. Even the absence of music/sound, creates some form of suspence or horror. So yea, without music, games wouldn't be as they are now.
I have to agree, the music of sonny and sonny 2 is good, and it really complements the game. About Halo, I feel I prefer the music of Halo 1 and 2 over that of Halo 3 and Reach. I don't know why, but it's just different. Also, I'd really like to hear about your guy's opinions of the music I posted previously (Page 2/3) and discuss the music. I included a great variety, with some which are really awesome for action, and some which are just beatiful. Either way, I put quite a bit of effort into that, so I want you guys to enjoy it, and I don't want it to go to waste.
