First, i put this in this category because it was the only one that seemed fitting for this. So ive been watching Death note, and if your not familar with Death note its about a student who finds a book and if u write someones name in it and you picture their face in your mind they die. He uses this to kill criminals to make the world a better place...and theres alot more stuff and drama but thats the only important part im interested in explaining.
So what do you think? If such a book existed would it be ok to let somone kill criminals? obviously crime would go down but you cant just let someone kill people like this, it just doesnt seem right. even if it was a government sponsered thing with professionals judging who gets killed....what do you think? what are your thoughts?
I cant but help support the idea of some rogue justice enthusiast killing criminals, BUT obivously i understand its wrong and immoral if this was going on. I just want your thoughts because im not so sure about it. I COMPLETELY understandthat in the end i will realize its wrong, im just curious as to your thoughts. Plz be thoughtful in your response and logical.
First off, I've seen Death Note, so I now what you mean.
However, letting someone kill criminals like this isn't a great idea. True, it creates safety, but only a fake one. Criminals have been around about as long as humans (I suppose) so I'd even go so far as to say it's part of human nature. Allowing one person to judge them according to his own beliefs, morals and feelings simply cannot be right. It doesn't change the nature of people, it just weeds out the 'rotten apples' - ignoring both the fact that there will always be new ones, and the risk of involving that person's personal feelings.
I think that it's right for people like Colonel Gaddafi since it would probably stop the Libya war and for terrorists like osama bin laden and people who you know are going to kill people like if a psychopath escapes from prison. But not for normal criminals because they might have been framed. Apparently 20% of executions were on innocent people.
Oh how I wish I possessed the Death Note, I crave for that power, criminals are fair game for killing (not that I have particularly strict morals anyway so I'm not particularly fussed when it comes to murdering most people anyway). One must remove the dangerous elements of society, the tumorous growths that damage the body as a whole, protecting the body of society is surely a large part of justice and thus should be carried out by any means possible and necessary.
Morals are man-made, so is the idea of Justice, if I believe that my actions are moral then they are also Just. Light Yagami went slightly off of the mental deep-end but he started out well enough.
Well, the society we live in today is man-made, Avorne. If you don't like it, go find a cave. While you live on this earth, or at least in any country, you have to abide by the rules. They suck yeah, but you still have to.
*munches on toaster strudel* British you say? He still belongs in cave.
And if you are going from Death Note ( I love Kira and L even though both a psychopaths ), He DOES kill people out of his country. So I'm still screwed.
Let us view this from a psychological stand point, 'kay? Government was made from a group of people that were considered SANE. Most of them, anyways. So.. The SANE people figured that everyone was SANE, and if you didn't act like you were, you deserved punishment. Now, there are people that are INSANE, that don't deserve to be killed because their brains work of different levels, but we get to ignore that because so many SANE people use the word INSANE to their advantages, the sly dogs. So people that are actually innocent by being insane, get to be killed, while the others that aren't insane get to visit happy time out corner.
There are people that are different, and they get "ut down", because they are different, and apparently can't function in this world of ours. It is our fault for creating the world while being so ignorant of certain needs, and it is our fault for thinking that anyone has the right to kill someone. Two rights don't make a wrong... How many times have we heard this? Just because Bob decided to kill Jane, doesn't mean that Jeff the Judge can make Bob die.
I don't think it would be a great idea to kill small criminals. It puts fear in the people's mind. But I would agree to kill some people that oppresses countries and thousands of people like dictators.
