Now before you go saying this thread was created before...This is about the best in each category not "your favorite book." categories: Choose the series or book you think is a must read for anybody who wants to read that type of book. plot rereading sci-fi fantasy realistic fiction (historic fiction as well) Best book for ?? year old person (you can choose the number in place of the ??) And any other category you can think of Here is my thoughts on this: Best book by Plot: Dune series-excellent plot with many plans within plans and the great purpose... Sci-fi:???(stuck between space odyssey and foundation series) Fantasy: Lotr series...
So what are your thoughts on the best books of all time?
As I am only a child, mine would have to be CHERUB. Yes, you might be thinking it's about fairies, cherubs and all that. But it's slightly like James Bond, but with children around my age.
sci-fi - I'd say The Way trilogy by Greg Bear or the Takeshi Kovacs novels by Richard Morgan Fantasy: Definitely LOTR for plot and overall my personal favourite, The Sandman Series by Neil Gaiman
If it would work better somewhere else i think it would be in the Art, Music, and Writing forum.
My favorite book would have to be Watchmen and i haven't found any other books mind blowing enough to be mentioned. (my profile has the three things in life that blew my mind so much that they're profile worthy)
You see where I'm going with this. The Bible was by far the best-written series in history. You don't have to believe in it to appreciate it (let's not get into a religious debate....well, maybe a little).
For the category of Fantasy/Adventure, nothing beats the Symphony of the Ages series, the first book of which is entitled Rhapsody. Very, VERY good books. Better than Inheritance (Eragon), LOTR, Harry Potter or anything else you can think of.

Actually I found it rather dry reading. I prefer my fantasy books to be more along the lines of the Shannara series by Terry Brooks or Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkein. Far more entertaining, and realistic too!
but you see, the bible isnt really a "book" its a compliation of many books.
Yes, but in a way, it could be called a series of books.
Ernie, how is the Bible scifi?
It talks about the creation of the universe, of man...etc.
Actually I found it rather dry reading.
But the great thing about the Bible is, you don't have to read it to know what it's about. People talk about it so much that you kind of already get the feeling of most of the tales inside.
I'll appreciate LotR more when 1/3 of the world starts believing everything in it is true.
Sfi - The War of the Worlds. Never mind the crap movie. the story is brilliant/ so descriptive. Apocalyptic - On the Beach by Neville Shute Travel - Vagabond by Rolf Potts Superb books all of them.
