I thought of bringing this up earlier, however, I never did. But, for those of you who do not know, Canada is holding a federal election today. In fact the polls close in two hourse. Personally I believe the Conservatives will win, I've been following the opinion polls closely and they've yet to drop under 35%.

Some things to note about this election is that the NDP (New Democratic Party) will most likely end up as the major opposition to the Conservatives. This is something of a surprise because the NDP are often unpopular, yet have gained ground rapidly. The Liberal Party of Canada has, for the first time in decades, been placed in a minor role in the Canadian Parliment. Furthermore, the Greens may actually gain a seat this time.

The support for the NDP is showing a change within Canada. While the Conservatives still out number the NDP the conservatives will have to settle with another minority government. I suspect that the NDP, who I support, will continue to gain popularity over the next couple of years. Regardless of how Harper and his Conservatives do, many middle class families are tired of being neglected while corporations get the tax breaks.

Furthmore, students are becoming irritated with our politicians ignoring us. The only party offering us any chance for a cheaper education up front, and a better one at that, are the NDP. I also suspect the Liberals are going to be sitting in a minor role for a very long time. They've butchered another campaign by offering nothing and slandering their competitors. Personally, I couldn't care less. Micheal Ignatieff isn't much of a Canadian in my opinion.

Well the polls close in roughly fourty five minutes. I'll be updating this around 10-10:30pm EST with either a result, or some further information on how the election is shaping up. There's a little doubt right now of whether or not the Conservatives have the numbers for a majority government. Hopefully not.

Currently the Conservatives are leading (as predicted) and may achieve their majority government they want. Since it's early yet many riding have yet to be confirmed, so no guarentee

I hate the Conservative party. I voted NDP. The bloody Conservatives have the majority government they wanted, not happy...

The only good that came out of this election is that the NDP are not the lead opposition.

Are you a conservative?

"No because we elected a PM who was in contempt of court, campaigned entirely on negative press and fear... I think thats plenty of reason to be disappointed."

A vote from Conservative is a vote for a criminal.

The bloody Conservatives have the majority government they wanted, not happy...

"Goodbye net neutrality
Goodbye neutral foreign policy (see Israel Palestine)
Goodbye gay and lesbian rights
Goodbye balanced budgets
Goodbye transparent, open government
Hello new prison spending
Hello jail for pot smokers (bill s-10)
Hello corrupt MP's (Bev Oda, The Guergis Clan)
Hello corrupt Harper Aide's 1
Hello American DMCA legislation (P2P fines anyone?)"

Fascism here we come!

Not to mention:

"Goodbye middle class!"
"Gooodbye small business!"
"Hello increased tuition!"
"Hello corporate tax breaks!"
"Hello useless military!"
"Goodbye universal healthcare!"
"Goodbye education quality!"

"Hello increased tuition!"

A personal slap across the face, even more so since I have to use loans to pay my school off. Soon I'll be paying as much as Americans.

Also;

"Hello to usage based billing"
"Hello to eating out of American Corporations hands"
"Goodbye to money spent on Parks"
"Hello privatization of basic services"

"Hello useless military!"

We definitely need some planes, why not package some tanks to that?

I'm in the same boat. I'll have loans soon enough.

Sarcasm? If not I really have to ask, aside from the Middle East (thanks for that too Harper) where do we need tanks?

So much fun seeing them go up, am right?

Yes, but I wouldn't put it past Harper. Cut basic services to expand our military.

where do we need tanks?

Where do we need planes? We are a peacekeeping force, jet fighters are useless in that regard.

The Green won a seat! I'm amused by this.

I haven't been following the election campaigns, so I'm not sure what everyone is promising, but I would guess that the conservatives, once again, are doing the exact opposite to what I think should be right. I did hear some noise about prisons and stuff, I didn't follow tho, so what happened?

The Liberals and Bloc got smashed. The Green won a seat, the NDP is the new Opposition and the Torries won the majority the government they wanted

"Goodbye even more taxes!"

Oh right, and what will pay for this? Yes, our social infrastructures. Which will lead to some of the consequences that Darkroot and wolf1991 stated before.

I think you made a mistake here, should be "Hello even more taxes." since under Harper Hst was presented and he defends it vigorously.

I see nothing wrong with the Conservatives.

Right, I don't feel you know much about politics.
