I wanted to make a thread to discuss this topic, because the ban on gay marriage (in most states) is very prejudiced in my opinion. I still have no idea why these horrendous laws are still here, and I hope that they change as soon as possible.
However, this change will probably only happen once the House and Senate are mostly Democratic, because the Republicans would never let this amendment pass. I am not sure when an amendment to the Constitution of this sort will be made. It might be made in 1 year, 10 years, or never.
I myself am not gay/bisexual, but I know 2 or 3 people who are.
People are probably going to start calling me out for it being against my religion (you know who you are) but i have nothing against homosexuals.
Now that I think about it, why do people HAVE to get married to be together?
Because getting married to someone is a sign to show how much you love them. Really if you are willing to get married it should have the same effect but you still aren't legally married according to the court system.
I always wondered what would happen if you just called marriage something else? Then the churches can't get that hurt...

marriage for some, civil unions for all.

Besides the homosexuals who are of a particular religion that says it's wrong to be homosexual (no it doesn't make sense to me either) so they want to get married under that religion. There are a number of legal benefits that go along with marriage that you can't get with a civil union. If this was changed so that the civil union held the legal cards that a marriage held it wouldn't be as big of a deal. If we are to have marriage as a religious thing then we should take away the legal benefits of it. If we are to keep the legal benefits intact, then it shouldn't discriminate as to who can and can not be married and the religious can stuff it.
i thought separate but equal is inherently unequal was w/ regard to water fountains and stuff like that............ if the difference is getting married by a priest or getting joined legally by someone other than a religious official then it doesn't matter if you slap a different name on it... its the same thing.
you can just be like
you-"we're husband and husband"....
them-"when did you get married"
you- "we didn't"
...just wanted to apply the rainbow troll face somehow xD
Yet what is the inherent barrier stopping gays from being married? Let it be said that there is a seperation of Church and State. Regardless of how anyone feels about homosexuality what is the real cause for the discrimination?
So if it were passed, would the Government implement that Churches are mandated to marry gay couples? Or would we assume that it would just be bound by the state?
I don't have any problem with homosexuality. I am straight, but i feel like people who are gay can't really help it, like they don't choose to be gay. As long as they aren't trying to flirt with me all the time I have no problems whatsoever. They are human beings just like us. If they happen to like the same sex then that's just the way it is, and they should be treated no differently.
i believe that your sexual orientation is irrevilivent to my thoughts on you as a person. i have lots of gay friends. i dont give a **** if they are gay really XD. people just need to learn to treat people like regular human beings. christians are supposed believe people are all equal under the eyes of god, so do it. they are people with emotions and feelings just like you and me. and this doesnt just go for christians either, dont feel like im attacking you the religion as a whole. i mean christians that feel being gay is wrong becasue of religous purposes, so bassically people who think that way.
the constitution of the US states that all people are givin equal rights, guess not.
This isn't much of a discussion left anymore. Those laws will go with time, old people die, and just about every person I know [high schoolers and stuff] would promote a removal of such laws. I'm sure that in the future this stuff is going to go.
