Hey America, get ready for some new taxes!

If we truly are using the same percent of our income for taxes that we did in 1958, I personally think they should get raised.

This has been a bad day.

Could a mod please clean up all my spam and make this thread functional again?

This should be a fun read; I stumbled across it from Moe's Link.

Honestly, saying we pay less in taxes today than we have in the past isn't really a legit reason to propose we raise taxes back up again.

But it begs the question, why are you Americans so uptight when it comes to taxes. I have a feeling you guys pay some of the lowest taxes in the world. Let's say you go up by...I dunno, 5% (because it's a nice number) is that 5% going to make THAT much of a difference?

Any amount of raise will make a bunch of difference.

I raise tax two percent in the morning.
I raise tax two percent at night.
I raise tax two percent in the afternoon, it makes me feel alright
I raise tax two percent in time of peace, and two in time of war
I raise tax before I raise tax two percent,
and then I raise two more

Well, when taxes are low people complain that the government is out of cash. The government receives all of its spending money from taxes, except for gifts from allies. You can't rely on gifts all your life, so they raise taxes. Then people complain that they're running out of cash. Seriously people, don't be ignorant.

Or, just make companies actually pay their's.

GE posted a multibillion dollar profit this year. Paid zero corporate taxes.

Last year, instead of paying the 35% corporate tax, GE paid 21%.

I don't get it, how does taxing these corporations more help the economy when the government continues to spend more anyway?

The solution is to cut government spending. It doesn't help to raise taxes if the government is going to spend even more money as a result. It's counter productive. How about we simply limit government spending?

So NoName, get off your high horse.

No, you get off my high horse.

My friend had a very good point.

Why aren't we taxing religious organizations, making pot legal and taxing the **** out of that, and why in gods name are we giving tax breaks in a debt crisis?

Yes, why do we give religious organizations tax breaks? There is several million dollars worth of tax free propterty that scientology, the mormon church and the catholic church hold.

Although we disagree on taxes, at least we can agree that religious organizations should not gain any special treatment or immunities.

Either everyone pays or no one.

Thank you.

Does anyone have a logical explanation to why the religious get tax breaks. It really pisses me off that they do...

And perhaps if they are taxed, the megachurches you always hear about will be no more,

I think that that may be why they haven't made the taxes happen yet. The people that go to the churches have sway in government and then use that sway to make sure that a bill to tax churches never goes anywhere.

The people with the money finance the people in power and the people in power reward the people with the money.

And that's very sad truth.
