In my Geology class the teacher taught that the planet has been around for about 6.4 billion years before the first humans. There was a question on the test that asked this question and about half of the people refused to answer the question, or stated they were Christians and said God made the planet and humans at the same time. Sould students have the right to answer the question answer based own their own belief or should the question only be answered the way the professor wants it? Personally I don't care, I learned if you want to pass college just write what ever makes the professor happy.

When my sister is revising for her gcses and my dad helps her he always says this annoying thing aout the exam being a game where you play by the rules to get th most points. And if it is a science exam they should right science since it is testing whether they have that knowledge not believe it.

are the childish theists who can not fathom their belief system proven wrong.

They still rely on something / someone else to get them through the day, that, intentionally or unintentionally, is one of the best descriptions of a theist, imo.

Yes but believing in something isn't the direct case of Science, Science is a tool, and therefore knowing the method and furthermore the knowledge itself is the task. R.E hands you the information and therefore whether you believe it, and why.

Sorry for taking it out of context, qwerty1011, for those who read this he's talking about his sister.

Anyway. Many things are a "Play by the rules" thing and if you wanna pick your teeth because your religion is being questioned then I suggest you stfu unless you are willing to stand up for every "Play by the rules" scenario.

Even so, the most logical solution is that the Earth is older than 6,000 years, so kthxbai if you're unwilling to accept that, simply put.

Until people can provide evidence for their claims they have to go with the official things they are taught. And no, "the bible says so" doesn't count.

If the class was theology, or if the question said, "according to your beliefs..." then not answering would be acceptable. However, in geology class, there is one acceptable answer. DEAL WITH IT!

Alot of you say go on facts not religous views, but is it really a fact or a thoery that the earth was made 6.4 billion years ago? You can't really be sure 'facts' change all the time. And when millions upon millions of people don't believe this to be true I don't think they should consider it a fact.

I also think that professors shouldn't ask things like this

If you are going to take a science course, and yes geology is science, you must place a hold on your religious veiws. To me that is very hypocritical to take a class in the goal of learning and then deny it because it doesn't fit into your veiw system. I remember last year in school we were learning about ancient Egypt and we had to come up with two true statement and one false one about ancient Egypt, well one girl in my class said " In ancient Egypt there were many gods." She counted this as her false statement because " God created us all, and if you don't or didn't believe in him you are a bad person." That is the same thing as rejecting a college profferser's knowledge because your religious beliefs clashed with it. It irritates me to no end, I mean yah, you could just not answer the question. But then are you really gathering anything from that class?

yup :3

lol if people could put whatever they believe in in science test every questions answer would be: "because that is gods will".

and like that everyone would be able to be scientists :3.

i am religios myself but i know how i should answer questions and in what kind of logic or theory i should rely on depending on the situation. if other religios people cant do that they shouldnt choose science or should get a 0.

also, at least i have an opinion. you listen to a book that doesnt explain why he judges things that way. i have my logic and i build my opinions and decisions based on that logic. you just mindlesly do and think as you are told.

Why was this brought back up?

Facts are objective observations that have been verified many times. This however does not mean we still can't be wrong but it does mean there is no reason to not accept it as true.

Theories are scientific explanations of related observations or events based on hypotheses and verified multiple times by different independent researchers.

As a side note it's not 6.5 billion years old it's 4.54 billion years old.
