I have recently started a new account on Facebook after my other one became swamped with friends that I mindlessly let in. I was wrong to do that. However, a few days after I started this Facebook account, some yahoo at my school decided to set up a fake Facebook account under the name Jessica Bateman, who then in turn "revealed" that I was the person who set up the account (which I didn't). I now have a ton of people calling me gay, homo, and a lot of other nasty names. So, my question is if Facebook weren't around, then would a lot of other people have social problems that they have today?

It's not because idiots can't behave on a social site that it's the social network's fault. I mean it's like if somebody kills someone in a public park. Are we going to ban the park for being "dangerous"?
Allow me to rephrase the question, because I think I poorly stated it earlier. Is it now easier to cause other people to have social problems than ever before?
facebook is just the easiest medium for people to do so at the moment, if it werent around people would still find a way to harass and bully other people
Yes Zakyman, it is, because of the whole social networking fad going on. I can only assume it will become more prevalent until there is a system invented to prevent things like these, which seems like an impossibility to me.
If there are bullies around, they will always be around. Also, as far as I know, nobody takes Facebook status updates in higher priority than what they hear, so if anyone were to say I did something on Facebook, I think it would be really easy for me to just tell them no when I see them and i'm sure they'd probably believe me.
It's bad for stupid people, because stupid people get addicted to it and don't do their homework, just like they text in class, put their head up, and then wonder wtf is going on.
Personally, I love Facebook. It's a great medium for communicating and sometimes having a fun chat, through comments or the actual chat. It's nice and, on occasion, helps me to keep in touch with people I don't see around as much as I used to.
I find Facebook to be great. I can talk with old friends that live far away and share photos. As far as making fake accounts and people getting into trouble for writting bad things that is always going to happen.
Facebook is a way to communicate with friends, and meet new people. Unfortunately, a lot of people misuse the internet, and so if people had better intentions then Facebook is good, and its not your fault that bleep did that.
if facebook wasnt around then myspace would probably still be the popular thing to have annd the same kind of stuff would end up happening again anyways
