Black is my favorite color! im not goth, if anything im skater. Black is a color just like any other color, it doesnt mean ur goth if thats your favorite color.
People thinking that wearin black makes you a goth are stupid. First, I also like to wear black, and that is independent of my social, cultural or musical orientations (well maybe it's socially induced somehow but that's another story). Second, 'metallers' also wear black above average, mostly black trousers and hoodies to be simple. Third, my point is it not only depends on what colour your clothes are, but what sort of clothes you wear. If you wear black jeans and a black t-shirt, you aren't even close to looking gothic. If you wear a long black coat with a black hat and black boots, then you definitely look like a goth.
Just blame Hollywood and its portrayal of goths in movies, I mean, they're all the stereotypical 'gloomy goths' - there doesn't seem to be any mention or appearance of the other types of goth.
If your favourite colour is black, and you wear it most of the time, you picked the wrong username. Black is a pretty neat colour, though, and a good colour for clothes.
Colors have subconscious effects on a person's mood. Advertisers use colors all the time to sell things. There are many resources to study color psychology (http://psychology.about.com/od/sensationandperception/a/colorpsych.htm). I believe black is a color described to bring emotions such as mourning and loss.
That being said, I do think society has played a large role in how we perceive things. This goes beyond colors though and this isn't the topic to bring a lot of discussion on conditioning. My point is that I believe it to be the reason so many people have told you that they think black is goth. Inherently, black is a color, nothing more.
How do stereotypes not matter? Stereotypes affect people all the time.
Well, I believe he meant to say that it doesn't matter if people think he's a "goth" because black is his favorite color. It's a stereotype which best be brushed aside.
