I hope they enjoy being stuck buying energy from France and Russia. Idiots.
Im from germany and I totally agree with that statement! But it was only a political decision for to get votes at the next election.
Actually, I read that Germany is exporting more energy to France than France is exporting to Germany (don't ask me why both export and import between each other; fact is, netto Germany is selling energy to France). Those French politician who first laughed at Germany were only trying to fool the public (it worked quite fine), and privatly they are worrying what consequences the turn-off of German nuclear plant will have for consequences; France will get less energy from Germany.
Italy just confirmed its decision to stay away from nuclear power as well, abrogating berlusconi's new nuclear plan with a popular vote. I'm pretty sure many people voted just to make berlusconi weaker, but I don't complain since I hate both him and nuclear power.
I'm sort of against nuclear power considering all the dangers that could spur from it...
Okay, I can somehow understand that. But let's compare the total dead people caused by the different energy sources:
Energy Source Death Rate (deaths per TWh)
Coal â" world average 161 (26% of world energy, 50% of electricity) Coal â" China 278 Coal â" USA 15 Oil 36 (36% of world energy) Natural Gas 4 (21% of world energy) Biofuel/Biomass 12 Peat 12 Solar (rooftop) 0.44 (less than 0.1% of world energy) Wind 0.15 (less than 1% of world energy) Hydro 0.10 (europe death rate, 2.2% of world energy) Hydro - world including Banqiao) 1.4 (about 2500 TWh/yr and 171,000 Banqiao dead) Nuclear 0.04 (5.9% of world energy)
No offense to any German, but time has proven that they will use force to get what they need. Since they just cut 1/5 of their energy output, they will soon desperately need energy. They will take that energy any way they can.

That's just silly and trollish..

See my post on top of page 4. They will sell less and won't have to buy all that much, also like grimml said they will produce a part otherwise. They really won't have such a problem with it, so cut it off.
I know I shouldn't respond but I have to say the following.
Nuclear energy will never be safe
I don't know what you're talking about. Nuclear energy is in fact one of the safest energy sources! Here you can see the deaths per TWH. More people are dying from falling of the roof tops while installing solar panels than people die because of nuclear energy!
One good example for the safety is actually ***ushima. Zero people died because of the accident at the nuclear power station. About 8 people died because a dam broke.
