I'd like to know where, realistically, they would get all this "renewable" energy from. If they think that they can efficiently power the whole country with windmills and solar panels, they have another thing coming. Of course, it's not a bad idea to have them, but they should improve the technology and start manufacturing it before they make any big promises.

If you're talking about Germany then they aren't really using renewable energy sources. They will use gas and coal in the mean time (and by mean time they probably mean 25-100 years...)
I don't know what the Swiss government is thinking. We have about 60% power form water and 40% from nuclear power plants. That means our CO2-bilance is very good. But now they decided to turn off the nuclear power stations until 2025 or something like that. Will we be as "green" as now? I don't think so...

Probably they read that article saying our climate is going to be hotter no matter how much we lower our CO2 emissions, and thought 'oh well, might as well'^^
Concerning Germany, I believe they will have no problem getting enough energy even without nuclear plants, like grimml said at the expense of a better CO2 emission but I do appreciate the step away from nuclear, even if it means polluting a bit more. I consider nuclear more nocive in the aspects of it's wastes and long-term effects, and I don't see why we should stick with old nuclear plants (because some really are old) and just 'renovate' them regularly until we have found a better technology.
