I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!
I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?
Everyone on the south and east coasts, please take caution! Irene has already grown much stronger than anticipated! It could be a CATEGORY 4 if it hits Florida, and a CATEGORY 3 if it hits the anywhere along the east coast. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND PREPARE NOW.
I want to repost the images of Irene on this page.
hope this image turns out right i never posted 1 before.
No, that's great! Thanks for the image!
Agh! Dang it! Is too cold in here! Not cold as snowy countries, though.
Is about 6 C here now and my apartment is VERY cold in the inside. Is so cold that my hands look freezing and I can't type fast as I can in normal temperatures!
I hate winter... >:-P
Haha I hate that! Sometimes I go to the High School's football games, and my mom wants me to text her updates when she can't go. Except some of those games it gets to 40 F (4 C) and windy, and it takes me five minutes to tell her just the score and situation! D:
It's funny how that day was only the good 4th of July like ever. All those previous Independence days were usually really hot, or overcast skies and stuff like that. And all those days weren't...ya know I guess you can say perfect.
Yeah. The day everyone's out is usually the day the weather runs amok.
Today, apparently, it got slightly hotter. Highish 70's, I believe. And a little bit of a breeze.
Forgive my foul language, but that sounds beautiful! (I can't believe I just said that!) :P
So apparently New England decided to get pretty hot. But it's good temperature. It's been raining hard, on and off, which bothers me so much because during the summer I like clear skies, and a temperature of 80 at most. I don't like clouds though because they block the sun and it gets all dark and depressing for a moment, then goes back to being nice and sunny. That upsets me.
Yeah you have some rain coming in a few days! And then with Irene possibly coming up the coast... But anyways I like partly cloudy days! You can be doing something active and the clouds come and make it cooler for just a little bit!
Irene will be a Category 4 when it passes near or over Florida. This is VERY DANGEROUS. It has been constantly strengthening more than anticipated, and is still difficult to tell what it will do now. -----------------------------------------------------------------------
today the weather was so hot ! we were at the pool / what to say a normal day in bulgaria xD
Haha, heat isn't so fun! There was an extended period of heat here during July and it just stunk. How hot does it get there?
I don't believe Irene will sustain the power. It is going to hobble on the keys and weaken. Even then, though, I think it would be a very smart idea to keep up with it if you are in Florida.
When I lived in Houston, we evacuated for Hurricane Ike and my room's ceiling dropped so I'm glad we left. [ Can't remember its category ]
But now I'm in VA, and I doubt Irene will do anything here but make it a bit stormier. I hope everyone in FL is okay. Although they're probably pissed because they get enough rain anyway.
It would be awesome if Irene misfired into TX, though.
I live in Greece. Its realy hot here especialy in summers. In winters the weather is mild.Actualy though i love storms and snow which i barely see.Id love to live in Alaska
Yeah, I saw that complex coming through! Did you get some gusty winds at the front, or did the bow echo go south? (A bow echo is when a storm curves like an archer's bow, and means strong winds are with the storm, like this

What leads you to believe that? It is over open water, and will be for quite a while. The upper atmosphere is very favorable for its development, too...

That's very scary. Just proof that even weaker hurricanes like Ike (which was a Category 1 when it made its second landfall near Texas) can do massive damage.

Have you checked the most recent storm track? It has Irene coming right for you:
And it could be a Category 3 (major hurricane) or still a Category 2 when it hits... Just saying, if I were you, I'd make sure you are prepared. It could get very bad, all the way up the East Coast even. I can't emphasize enough, please don't take this lightly.

Heh, for you maybe. But Texas does need the rain. Maybe if it went there and weakened to a heavy-rain-producing depression, it'd be good. Nobody needs hurricane-force winds.

That sounds nice... However, I would miss snow! Maybe I'll post a picture on this thread of the first snowstorm we get!
@snowguy13 Maybe I know the explanation for the soundless storms.. we had a pretty awesome thunderstorm again this evening, this time we were just below it; we heard a few thunders but not all too strong, although the sky was flashing constantly (minimum one flash per second. Awesome!). Well there was a strong wind but we had a bit of Sahara sand in the clouds these times (made for nice orange-ish clouds); my father said those sand particles could have started the lightning, and that the reason we didn't hear it as loud as regular thunder is because they almost never hit the ground, but probably were casting between two or more layers of clouds, transversally through the sky.

So far I've got no rain, but the wind has picked up a bit. It's still bright out with about 40% cloud cover. They don't really look like storm clouds tho. It might start to rain in an hour or 2.
I heard about that! I never new that there was a fracture near D.C. I know for sure there isn't a fault! Thanks for the image!

From what I read, that sounds correct. Clouds and dust can both block sound very efficiently. I think I read that dust can muffle completely the sound of lightning in less than a mile. :O

It's cloudy like it's threatening to rain here, but from the radar the storms are very weak and may not even hit... I'd just like a rainstorm. That's what I like about winter systems: they tend to be very powerful compared to summer ones.
Theres a hurricane coming up the east coast and it looks pretty bad
*facepalm* Hurricane Irene (images of which can be found on the past three pages of this thread) is now a Category 1, but is expected to become a Category 3 (major hurricane) by Friday. Models are forecasting it to towards the Carolinas, but no one along the East Coast can be counted as safe yet.
