I love the weather and have always been interested in it. To me, the creation of incredible storms and the patterns of heat, wind, fronts, and pressure systems in absolutely incredible, especially since many of these things still baffle humans!
I want to know: does anybody share my interest? Any other weather buffs out there? Or, some interesting story or fact about the weather?
The weather jumps and runs all over the lace. Cold to mild to hot to cold to mild...and so on.
But it's July and I have to wear a jacket! Yesterday I wasn't expecting the severe coldness, so I went outside in a t-shirt and my hands turned purple. I can't remember the last time that happened to me in the middle of the summer.
Remember when there was snow in every state (except Florida)?
Just this last winter? Or the one before?
In Iowa, this last winter was nothing compared to the one before. Winter 2009/2010 we broke a record for most consecutive days with snow on the ground!
I live in 'tornado ally' but have yet to experience a tornado first hand. I go outside when the tornado sirens blare because I like the fast winds blowing the trees all around, the lightening and the rain! I love storms, but not to the point of observing them and why they are composed. Although I do find the creation of lightening exciting, and I know how clouds form, but that isn't saying much now is it?!
The eastern foothills, I assume? I can see how you'd get thunderstorms every day. Moisture that goes up one side of the mountains... goes down the other. :P
@Binary_Illusion
Yes! I'd love to do that every time it storms, but my parents are so mean. They won't let me go risk my life for a column of swirling air. It's so dumb. :P
I love thunderstorms; watching them and learning about them. For me, the simple "whats" aren't enough; I need to know why. I find it amazing that such powerful storms can form without human intervention, and we still don't know everything about them. Weather's like a mystery that always unravels into a new riddle...

Well, that happened to me. I was going to hang out with my friends to play some basketball and it was cloudy. We were like it's okay maybe some sprinkles. BOOM, there you go.

Agree with everything. I do hate how I can't go outside when it storms because it's "dangerous". I want to be a storm chaser but there are lots of other things I want to do but storm chasing is at the top.

Exactly! It's not like lightning could strike or anything. You know the funny thing? People (my parents) thing that they're automatically safe when the sun comes out, but lightning has been known to strike 11 miles away from a parent thunderstorm, from a seemingly blue sky. :P I want to chase storms, but it'd probably have to be a hobby. Storm chasers make next to nothing...
Yes, you guessed right. Eastern Foothills FTW! It's only during monsoon season that it rains though. The other days of the year are usually storm-less. It's overcast a lot, but it never rains.
Yaay! That would stink, though. To not have rain for such a long period...
This is why I like Iowa. Thunderstorms, nicely spaced, occur in the summer, and just when you get sick of them, it's winter and snow comes! Yaaay!
It was very hot today (93F, feels like 101F) but it's raining now. Lots of lightning and thunder. Can't see any bolts, but the entire sky keeps flickering, so it must be high up.
When the lightning goes off, the sky gets all purple like snowguy13's armatar lol.
Hahaha I want your storm! Wait... I may have seen it building by my house today! Or at least the southern edge.
We have an Excessive Heat Warning here. The highs for the next few days are: 96, 97, 97, and 97. Now, I'm sure some of you desert-residers will look at that and say "Pffftt. What wimps." But! Are deserts humid? No. Factor in humidity (and it is VERY humid right now), and you get feels likes of 115 to 120. Ick!
We dont have much weather where I live but I love what we have which is only small/medium lightning and thunder. I'm glad we dont have any major natural disasters
