If there was an international crisis (such as the ever-popular and overused film topics like alien invasion or extreme climate change) could people of different/opposing nations be united for the same cause: Survival? or would people still be too divided on things like nationality, race, religion, etc.?

Ok since there's a general consensus that of course not every single person would, could the militaries unite? or would they be too 'superior' to help and fight alongside other nations?

Yes, but why would it matter? Once again, in modern times a few nukes replaces a whole army.

All humanity could not unite,if we ever needed to unite,it would be the day civilization died.

Frankly there isn't a snowballs chance in hell, humans on a base level are too different in their ideologies to ever come together in solidarity. In my opinion the only way to cause that kind of unity is to condition every person on the planet, something akin to Brave New World, and even there, portions of the world were still refusing the conditioning.

As for the various military forces, again the answer is no, simply because of the various training methods, and assumed superiority amongst various groups. Then you factor in those groups with racist views and those who've been fighting for a while.

Hmm maybe if there was a Dr. Manhattan to threaten us.....
Really though we aren't going to to do this unless something forces us to unite. Like what others have said.

Could humanity unite? Well, we might be able to fight a common foe, for example, if it appears as a personified problem. Since we aren't able to fight off other foes like poverty and such, we don't seem to be able to really unite. I think even in times of dire misery, only individuals and groups could unite, but not all humanity.

Bravehawk does make a point, so long as religion exists or there is more than one religion the world will never unite because no one will want to unite with those who have denounced god.

Have you ever heard of the myth of the militant Athiest? It'd probably open your eyes a little.

As for the topic, I don't think it's possible. We'd all love for it to happen, but we just can't get along. Humanity has too big a history of just mindlessly killing eachother.

Oh come now it's not mindless, it's to solve our petty little differences that really don't matter in the grand scheme of things.

Haha. As true as that is, the two are pretty close, are they not?
