well, for the past three days, i have been drowning myself in hip hop music. old and new. and i must say i am having a lot of issues now.
im having a very very hard time understanding why people like lil wayne are aloud to be famous. im not saying that rapping about nothing doesnt take "talent" but i swear to god, now that i have been listening to so much good stuff, i wonder why societies taste in music has gotten so low minded.
i have also compiled another list if it matters to anyone.
the top 10 greatest hip hop artists of all time:
criteria:Influence, Impact, Originality, and popularity weighed in that order
1.Public Enemy 2.2-Pac 3.Run D.M.C 4.Eric B. and Rakim 5.The Notorious B.I.G 6.Outkast 7.NWA 8.Grand Masta Flash and the Furious Five 9.Big Daddy Kane 10. a tribe called quest honerable mentions (in no particular order):Eminem, Jay-z, LL Cool J, kanye west, Nas, Dr. Dre, De La Soul, Mos Def, Ghost Face killah, slick rick, Ice Cube, Beastie boys, Wu Tang Clan
these artists have drowned my ears lately and im just wondering what your guys' take is on my issues
honerable mentions (in no particular order):...kanye west...
Really. So the guy who says Bush hates black people on MTV, gets drunk off of Hennessy at an awards show and interrupts Taylor Swift to state who should of won the award (with said bottle in hand), wears shuttershades -and- 'raps' about the most mundane and boring subjects ever gets slapped in the a list with Dr.Dre, Wu Tang, and Ghostface?
I was glad that you mentioned Run DMC. Shame they got some troubles and split up, they were really great. And Unfortunately they really ended when one of them was shot.
I have to agree with Voidy here. I don't see how Kanye West deserves an award for... Well, anything, really. Now, I didn't post here for nothing. I actually do like both Run D.M.C. and Beastie Boys. Run D.M.C. just for working with Aerosmith on Walk This Way. I thought it was a rather good version of the song.
I think any hip hop artist who thinks it's a good idea to lyrically influence the youth of today highlighting a false importance on violence and disrespecting women do not need to be famous.
Your list of good hip hop artists contribute lyrical genius - they deal with real issues.
Beastie Boys are great, but everyone else I hate (Kanye West) or have never heard of (Wu Tang Clan). I never really got into all the Hip-Hop/Rap stuff. I have '24' and 'Dead and Gone' by T.I., and thats pretty much it.
And 'Learn Chinese' by Jin, its a really funny song.

keep in mind that none of these lists are official in anyways lol. but yes i do enjoy making them, allows me a good thought on music and a fair amount of listening too, along with me asking my older music acquaintances what sort of impact they had in their generation and a little bit of internet research, reading articles and what not.

and the same thing goes for kanye west, you may not like his personallity, but the dude knows how to make music and thats a fact
