well, for the past three days, i have been drowning myself in hip hop music. old and new. and i must say i am having a lot of issues now.

im having a very very hard time understanding why people like lil wayne are aloud to be famous. im not saying that rapping about nothing doesnt take "talent" but i swear to god, now that i have been listening to so much good stuff, i wonder why societies taste in music has gotten so low minded.

i have also compiled another list if it matters to anyone.

the top 10 greatest hip hop artists of all time:

criteria:Influence, Impact, Originality, and popularity weighed in that order

1.Public Enemy
2.2-Pac
3.Run D.M.C
4.Eric B. and Rakim
5.The Notorious B.I.G
6.Outkast
7.NWA
8.Grand Masta Flash and the Furious Five
9.Big Daddy Kane
10. a tribe called quest
honerable mentions (in no particular order):Eminem, Jay-z, LL Cool J, kanye west, Nas, Dr. Dre, De La Soul, Mos Def, Ghost Face killah, slick rick, Ice Cube, Beastie boys, Wu Tang Clan

these artists have drowned my ears lately and im just wondering what your guys' take is on my issues

In the first song, he is appreciating what new york has done for him and for his career. believe me, the battles that him and Nas had were pretty epic. Nas wrote a song called Ether, and the very first line says "**** JAY-Z" lol. you have to hear it.

and im very confused, who that we have talked about do you define as mainstream rap? cause pretty much every rapper ive listed is mainstream rap. jay-z was not as influential in the 21'st century as eminem yes, but not many artists were. the marshal mathers LP to this day remains one of my favorite albums. jay-z however was a FAAAR more influential artist in the 90's for reasons ive stated to you before

lil wayne can rap, but its not like he has any soul or purpose behind it. hes a mocery to a genre that has VERY good material coming out of it. he makes the genre look horrible

eminem is good, he is a very good example as to what good rap is. im saying that its a bad thing that lil wayne has as much fame as he does. hes arogent, he acts like hes the ****, hes sees going to jail as a good thing. i dont understand it at all why people enjoy his music
