There have been a few threads like this, but I haven't seen one in a while. So, I've been listening to Dream Theater a lot lately. Stuff like Octavarium and Images and Words. Mike Portnoy really is a machine. Most of you know that he left though, and he got replaced by one of the best drummers in the world right now, Mike Mangini. They have a new single out with Mangini and he's unbelievable. This made me want to listen to songs with really good drumming in them. So, I'm wondering what other drummers people on AG like. My other favorites are Chad Smith (RHCP), Neil Peart, Travis Smith (ex-Trivium), Jason Costa (All That Remains), Keith Moon (the Who), John Bonham (Led Zeppelin, I also encourage people to listen to When the Levee Breaks by them, good drumming in that song), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Bill Ward (Black Sabbath), Carl Palmer, Tomas Haake (Meshuggah), and Lars Ulrich (Metallica). I probably forgot a few, but share your favorites.
wasn't an epic drummer like all these, just a commemoration of his life in drumming R.I.P
I was about to start a huge rant about how much I hate A7X and how much I think the Rev is overrated as a musician, but this made me refrain from doing so. It is unfortunate that any musician dies, even if it is due to drug overdose, which it was, in this case. And even if I hate Avenged Sevenfold, and their deceased drummer, very much, I know that the Rev was a strong contributor to the band and their music.
But anyway, I remember seeing this awesome drum battle at Rockstar Mayhem. Even if you don't like Godsmack, I'm on the fence about them, this is really cool.
while the rev may be an overrated drummer, he was acutally a very underrated drummer when he was still alive, and it kills me that people only gave him real recognition only after he died :/ **** shame.
he was a very good drummer even if he is overrated, and people should respect him as a musician no matter what

I guess you could say he was a little overshadowed by his band mates, who I believe have little talent, go ahead and hate. Some people go as far as saying he's the greatest drummer of all time (I'm not even kidding). He's not even in the top 50 for me. There are so many drummers better than he was, but maybe he died too soon? He WAS better than Lars, though. Lol. I love Lars but his drumming is putrid nowadays. He's up there with the drum gods, in my opinion, because it's nearly impossible to find a drummer, modern metal drummer I mean, not legend like Bill Ward or Bonham, that wasn't influenced by Lars. Him and a few other dudes pioneered fast(er) drumming and now he's a legend. But also, to his defense, as time went by, drummers found out how to be more technical in metal, not just progressive, and now Lars is like a nine year old kid going into Guitar Center banging on the drums compared to people like Tomas Haake or Chris Adler.
i wouldnt put him on a top 100 to be honest, the ONLY reason why i put lars on a list though is because his influence was huge to drumming. and justice for all is one of the best drumming albums ever, and actually death magnetic is pretty **** good on drums too. i think lars is a ****, but people hate on his talent more then he deserves.
i think one of the best-if not the best metal drummers of now-a-days is jon karel, ex drummer of the number twelve looks like you. that guy honestly blows hake out of the water and THATS saying something. technical skill wise though.
and you may try and argue, but believe me, i AM a drummer and the techniques that jon karel uses are FAAAAAAR beyond most drummers. his push pull technique is one of the cleanest ive ever speed, not to mention his massive bass pedal chops
animals as leaders has a drummer. hes a beast too. hes in the music video for CAFO and everything.
CAFO
the guy who did the drum tracks's name is matt halpern, but due to issues i dont know, hes not in the band anymore and the drummer Navene Koperweis is.
both very good
Ah, because I read somewhere that the original drums for that track were made by a drum machine.
