When I say rock I mean rock in general like alternative, grunge, metal, and so forth and the same goes for rap. I'm personally a rock only guy with Nirvana being the best band that ever lived. Anyhow, which do you think is better?

I like rock. I used to listen to rap when I was younger, but now I can't stand it. I listen to rock all the time though.

Hmm, i think they're both good genres of music. Each has their stars, each has their let downs. So it's kind of even for me.

Well, rap isn't exactly a genre as much as a way of singing, so rap can be found within rock music. Rock and rap combined can sound pretty darn well. But if I had to pick one, I'd said rock, as I listen to more rock music without rapping than with.

Not as in singing but it's a genre of music.

but it's a genre of music.

Nah, rapping is when you speak to a rhythm, usually with rhymes. It's used in genres such as hip hop, but it's not really a genre itself.

Might be because of this, from the Rapping page:

Today, the terms "rap" and "rapping" are so closely associated with hip hop music that many use the terms interchangeably.

Touche, i bow down. Although it's always perceived differently. I perceive rap and hip hop as one - although i technically know the differences, to me, it's one.

I hate rap, some of it has just too much cussing and just doesn't have a good beat for me.

I prefer rock, but then again I never was much of a rap fan. I enjoy some rap, but I think rock is better by a long shot.
