As of July 9th the Republic of South Sudan will become the world's newest nation state.
Good? Bad? Opinions.
My view is it's great for the people who wanted it, but creating a new nation state entails so much work, that it'll take quite a lot to make them feel this freedom.
I already heard of that, I don't remember everything but I remember feeling it was better for them, of course it comes with a lot of administrative work but Sudan is so big and it's population so separated in many aspects that it actually makes a lot of sense.
This will certainly spare some civil wars in Sudan. By making them wars between two nations I think will also decrease their numbers. The Muslim North still want's the Christian south's Oil fields and that makes me believe that if the North really did allow the South to become independent then there must have been a lot going on behind the curtains, which is a good thing.
@GoblinD I'm not sure if that makes sense, isn't it easier to get the oil if Sudan would be one country instead of having to wage war against a country? Also the separation was done because the south voted so, I'm not sure if the north is really that okay with it.
Sudan can't be one country because the south is Christian and the North Is Muslim. The result so far was endless civil war. The South always wanted to break away from the North that seems to them like other people (because of the religion) that keep taking away their oil. The North always wanted to oppress the south (that seems inferior because of religion) and take the oil. The North so far never agreed to give up the Southern oil fields but now they finally agreed to it. Its an historic compromise and goodwill doesn't drive those sort of things so there must have been deals going on behind the curtains. Maybe the south agreed to give the north some oil, maybe Britain forced them to do it, maybe China saw an opening, you never know. The point is that its settled by both sides once and for all. War can still happen (its Africa) but anything is better then the never ending civil war that happened beforehand.
Christianity and Islam coexist in Tanzania and i've witnessed peace relations between the two religions there during charity work. So yes, they can coexist in Africa.
Hopefully, they will soon grow into a great nation and not fall into despotism.

Why must they fight? It started over the holy land, now they fight over everything. The Crusades have long been over, why do they still kill each other mindlessly?
