Saw the episode. Outcome: Roosevelt wins. Actually, his weapons were not as outdated as you think, since the military still uses knives based on the Bowie Hunter and the Gatling gun is the most reliable automatic weapons design currently in use.
This week on Deadliest Warrior 2 of the greatest easrly 20th century warriors were featured. Lawrence of Arabia vs Teddy Roosevelt. This match-up featured two of the greatest weapons ever to appear in my opinion. The Gatling Gun for Roosevelt and the Vickers Machine Gun for Lawrence. When the 2 were tested the Gatling gun took out 13/18 targets in 1 minutes 11 seconds. Lawrence's Vickers took out 14/18 in 1 minutes 41 seconds and had 1 jam. In the end they gave the edge to the Gatling gun for reliability and rounds per minute. Then their rifle were tested. Lawrence's SMLE and Teddy's KRAG. They first fired to find out muzzle velocity. The SMLE had roughly 2150fps compared to the KRAG 1958fps. The Temorary cavities were then measured on ballistics clay, the KRAG scored a 5 inch cavity compared to Lawrence's 5.5 inches. Then a head to head test had them shooting at 8 targets with 20 rounds, Lawrence took out 7 targets, scored 14 hits in 2 minutes 14 seconds. Teddy scored all 8 kills with 16 hits in 2 minutes 26 seconds. The recoil was measured on both guns as well, the SMLE had 37lbs of recoil compared to the KRAG 9lbs. In the end, neither side got the edge because the KRAG had better funcionality and the SMLE had better power. Then Teddy's Bowie Hunter knife faced Jamilaya from Lawrence, they were 2 slash at 2 different targets and speed was measured. The Bowie Hunter had 42mph and scored 1 kill and i mortal wound. The Jamilaya scored 51mph and 2 instant kills. They gave Lawrence the edge. Lawrence also had the edge in tactics with his Phantom Army. In the end Teddy won 2,582 kills compared to Lawrence's 2,418. Lawrence's SMLE and Jamilaya got more kills than its opposition, but the Gatling gun proved an unyielding opponent with over 10,000 kills to its credit. In act 1 of what looks to be the most interesting episode of the season (in my opinion) We met the experts for each of the warriors blah blah blah. Then, we get to the first weapons test of the day, Hernan Cortes' Arquebus matchbox rifle. The expert was to shoot 3 targets with as many shots necessary and he was on the clock. Shot number 1, went clean through the 1st and the 2nd target, both instant kills. Reload time killed him as the reload was about 45 seconds. The second shot went clean through the throat of the third target. The total time for this test was 59 seconds. Thats it. For now, tune in Wednesday at 10/9c to Spike for the full episode.
Cmon Arabians... 2 Rough Riders for the shooting... and of course the man of pristine health goes against an older fatter smoker in a knife fight (in which his knife is superior) and loses. Totally biased. Leave it to DW to let a guy who captured one hill win to a man who brought a age-old empire to it's knees, just because of a gatling gun that did one kill in the end.
