Sorry if it's in the wrong section, move it if you must.
I searched for topics like this, none showed up.

So, discuss. What is the point in living?
Personally, I don't think there is one, apart from to, well, die.

In my life, I've only heard of one purpose that everyone seems to agree on:
To have a bunch of babies, and then to raise them so that they can have a bunch of babies, and so on and so forth...

Well the main idea is to continue our species as long as possible. Basicly survival. But now since we arn't usally hunted and in a lot of places people have a reliable food source we are able to focus on other things.

So what would you say is the purpose of life? Do you think we should have no babies, and instead all look for some kind of salvation?

To me, the main purpose of life is the continuation of life, which is almost universal. Life wants to stay life, and so, to keep it alive, everything has babies. Am I missing something?

It's probably the most common thing that comes in mind when thinking of the point of life. And I don't want to rebut it at all. I will just say that, ultimately, there is no point in life at all. No objective point, to be exact. Because the lack of point enables us to set an own personal point in our life, often we even do it unconsciously.
If we don't reproduce, our species will go extinct. Doesn't really have such a big impact on our own life, and anyway sh*t happens .

nope other people can get there babies as much as they want.
but for me personaly i don't care about getting children at all.
i rather have no children and spend all the money (that normaly go to growing up children) on my myself and my partner.

so no i do not agree that evry1 wants children. because i don't want them.

once again you turn a simple comment into something that you think that i claim.

Sorry :P
It's a nasty habit. I just meant to ask why you didn't agree with that.

What I was trying to say is that the only the purpose seems to be the continuation of life, because everyone will have something different that fulfills them, so a singular purpose would have to come out of a singular need, namely, the need for life to continue.

To live your life the way you want. But, you also have to live with the consequences of your actions. It is sometimes a cruel irony.

I agree on the different fulfilling thing, but I'd like you to tell me.. what need? Tell me honestly, do you know an obective reason why life should continue at all cost?

Not need in the same way that we need to eat to live, but need in the same way a person with OCD needs to repeatedly wash his hands. There is no reason life should continue, besides the fact that any life that didn't feel it should continue isn't really alive anymore.

the need for life to continue.

well actualy, i do not care about that either. i wont care if the world will end the day after i die. aslong i can live my life and have fun while it lasts.

so yea your purpose for life is a good purpose. but not evry1 thinks the same way. so you can't say that it is evry1's purpose or need.

for example it toke me prety long to meet the partner i got now. because most girls do want children, and do care more about human beings then i do. (i'm not saying here that i do not care about humans, i only say that it doesn't bother me much when... lets say 15.000 people die because a airplane crashes in some city. it's bad what happens then. but i wont feel worse because of it.)

There is no reason life should continue,

That's what I wanted to hear^^.

I'm not sure what you mean by the second part, I'll just say that living beings don't have the responsability to reproduce. Of course if noone does, the species will go extinct. And since reproducing is an attribute of life, life wouldn't be possible without replication of any kind. But a species isn't alive, it either exists or is extinct. So not wanting to reproduce does not make an individual less alive.
