Hi folks. Well, the title says it all: what actress is the most versatile on your opinion. By "versatile" I mean: What actress made different characters and kept them apart? Because, seriously, there are actresses that make two characters to look the same.

In my opinion, the most versatile actress is Christine Baranski, because I saw a TV Show that talked about her and it showed that she managed to do three different characters! A camp manager in a movie, a happy-living woman in Mamma Mia and the tough lawyer Diane Lockhart from "The Good Wife!"

Three female characters totally different!

I've found Uma Thurman to be quite versatile. She's played a large variety of roles, from highly strung crazy ex in My Super Ex-Girlfriend, to being a cool cokehead in Pulp Fiction, to timid damsel in Gattaca.

Didn't Uma Thurman appeared on Kill Bill?

Yes, she was the main character in Kill Bill, as well. She's been in quite a few movies of varying genres.

Well, Johnny Depp has a pretty specific style, but I think he's pretty versatile. I mean, he can do Jack Sparrow, "Rango", Willy Wonka, Edward Scissor Hands, The Mad Hatter... like I said, he does have a style but he can separate each of his characters well. Just my opinion. What does everyone else think?

Johnny Depp is WAY versatile. His characters are different and somehow exotic.

Unfortunately, this thread is for actresses, sorry. I think I'll ask a moderator to rename it...

Summer Glau was great on "The Cape". She is very beautiful, I think. And a great actress.

actress? to be honest, nattaly portman (SC) is very versatile and she proved that in black swan. i mean really, she played not only a sweet innocent girl, but a lunatic as well all at the same time. not to mention how DRAMATICALLY different that movie is from her other movies

Ah, I forgot to mention the most versatile actor in my opinion.

I think that Tom Hanks is the versatility in actor form.

A virtual Santa Claus (Polar Express), a cop (Green Mile) and a Krakozhian tourist trapped onthe JFK (The Terminal).

Johnny Depp. From Sweeny Todd, to Edward Scissorhands, to Captain Jack Sparrow, he can adapt to any character perfectly.

Jack Black in Gulliver's Travels is so funny.

Except he's the funny guy in every movie he's in. He never really has a different character other than as the main funny guy. Kind of like how Chuck Norris is always the main tough guy. That's not really versatility.

Gary Oldman is quite versatile. He's a Russian terrorist (he pulls off the accent perfectly and used a variation for voicing Reznov in COD), a big-city cop, a wizard.

Oddly enough, he did one drama movie where he didn't used any comical relief. But then he used a fairly mean side...
