This is out standing to me. The thought that a computer chip could learn for itself and learn things without previous programming blows my mind. I would like to hear every one's responses to this!

But the problem is they have the capacity to be better, and for the most part they would be better, they will think of it the same way any sentient being would, "Why should I be crippled, so they feel better?" they gain nothing from it, it's illogical for their capabilities to be limited.

These things have both programmable and learning synapses. This means we have full control over how much or how little freedom to learn these things get.

This is true, but scientists will eventually want to see if it can learn more, and then another will want to see more, on and on until they are genius super computers.

Well in that case precautions will probably be taken. Things like what I suggested might be in place. And I don't think they would mass produce these. It would probably be just a few, or maybe even just one. And I'm sure we can handel that. Even if they find a way to make sure that they can't be controled then I'm sure we'll find a way to destroy/disable them. Emps, missiles, tanks. Besides it's very unlikly they would do it. It's really stupid to do that. It's like making a succesful time machine.

If we were experimenting on how far far can go we will only make one individual in such a case. I don't think we would have to worry about something like a Skynet, since that scenario relies on us making the bone head maneuver of handing it full control of our defenses. Even giving such a creation internet access would be unlikely.

But imagine that Anonymous would do this. They could hack everything. With their mind. (if it was a full pc in your head. But then you needed a big head. And it would look redicoulous.

If they were ever made public, that would be quite difficult. Internet access is everywhere.

I think he meant the super genius robot that we wouldn't likly make. If we did then we would also keep it in an controled enviornment. We would probably homeschool it and not let it anywhere near computers.

humanity has read so many science fiction stories that there is NO CHANCE of AIs ruling the world :P

The movie "All Quiet on the Western Front" was made with the assumption that all wars were over and were just a horrible memory of the past, yet WWII still happened.

There's an event that scientists are referring to as Singularity, it's a point in time, 2045, beyond which they're unable to predict the advancement of humanity as a species because the technology will be beyond our understanding.

Terminator Salvation will come to life! I wish I knew what was going to happen to humanity. There is a very small circle of folks that do. Trust!

One likely scenario would be that the line between humans and technology will become so blurred that the two will be indistinguishable.

A race of synthetic humans? That is certainly a possibility, it's not a bad idea necessarily, it's just that I'm getting visions of the Borg.

I would think something closer to Ghost in the Shell.

Methinks that level of immortality would destroy ethics...
