If any government told the truth, we would have had 5 world wars by now. The things the governments hide are atrocious sometimes. Why do you think secret services (CIA, MI6, etc) even exist?

The CIA is the Central Intelligence Agency. Y'know, they collect data, information, and keep tabs on certain subjects of interest. This goes for both national and international subjects. Why tell the public? They aren't involved in these subjects, unless they really are. They won't release information to the public, because said information would be viral and could be used. When said information is strictly between them, their operations run more smoothly.

ikr. Stories spread so dang fast now. In about a minute someone could happen to find an important file, upload a picture of it, and anyone could read it. Usually they don't release anything at all until about 10 years later when they're absolutely certain that the information won't effect any current operations in any way.

Government secrets have existed for centuries.
Does not bother me.

It is, just the way things are.
They have reasons.
For example as in ' national security '.

Obviously i, comprehend plus respect security.
I as a humble citizen, definitely value employment.
There is no way, i would blatantly tresspass on 'Federal ' land.

the government doesn't release technology to the public unless it's been developed and in use for at least 10 years

25 years would be closer.

we all know what's really going on at Area 51... airplane testing

Between that and spaceplane prototypes, yes. (Spaceplane = like the Shuttle, but bigger, faster, sleeker)
Some flying saucer accounts from the region are actually grounded in fact. In the closing days of WW2, America sent a secret team of soldiers and scientists, code named Operation Paperclip, to Germany to collect as much information as possible about the Germans' experimental projects and to capture as many of their leading scientists as possible. Many of the projects were decades ahead of their time. Some of these included flying wing fighter and bomber designs, plans for a sub-orbital, trans-global bomber capable of delivering nuclear weapons from Germany to any point on Earth, and a strange craft called The Bell. The Bell was in essence a flying saucer, in that it was round and somewhat cone-shaped. Very little is known about it, but the available information suggests that it was designed to fly at extreme speeds within the Earth's atmosphere and possible also travel outside it. The data collected by Operation Paperclip led to many of the new and unusual designs from the Cold War era to today, including the B-49 and B-2 flying wing bombers, the saucer-shaped Avro Air-Car prototype, the concepts that led to the development of stealth materials like those on the F-117 and F-22, and the rockets that sent man to the Moon. A vast majority of these designs, prototypes, and operational aircraft had their origins at Area 51, and they have been carefully kept secret to ensure that enemy powers cannot duplicate or counteract our capabilities. It is important to note as well that the Germans were not using alien technology any more than we are. Both them in their time and us in the present employ some of the best scientists and engineers in the world, and these people naturally come up with ideas that are beyond the normal. That's why they're the scientists and we're not.

Another facet of the Area 51 UFO enigma is simple misinformation. The public believes there are UFOs at Area 51, so by encouraging that notion the government gives people something to look for that will distract them from the real work being carried out on new tech. It is literally a case of hiding in plain sight.

There is a fine line that must be walked, though. While new military developments and operations must be kept secret to preserve national security, the government should not be allowed to keep other secrets from the citizenry. Things like new laws and restrictions being crafted, which most times takes place behind locked doors and in back rooms, should be open. Additionally, secret governmental spying on the public should not only be exposed, but also be stopped and the means for it destroyed. What it all boils down to is that there are good secrets and bad secrets, and while it is the governments' responsibility to walk the line between the two, it often falls into the dark side of the issue. When this happens, they must be exposed. That in fact is part of the basis for the original way that the government was established in the Constitution, so that it would be open for all to see. Unfortunately, that has been ignored or defied by corrupt people seeking to advance their own agendas and plans to gain more and more control, and this therefore is why there must be an immediate return to true Constitutional government in America today.

Obama's still keeping parts of the PATRIOT Act. Things like that won't go away on their own.

I think it is our right as citizens of the United States to blindly follow whatever our government tells us and to not assume they have secrets. I mean, they've never secretly done anything that would hurt the nation before, right?

Please tell me you're joking.

Part of the very purpose of a government of, by, and for the people is to make sure that the powers that be cannot serve their own agendas at the expense of the citizens they are sworn to protect and lead. The bigger and more powerful the government becomes, the less accountability there is and the more secrecy and corruption there can be. Some secrets are for our own protection, particularly those surrounding military operations and technologies that if leaked could jeopardize the entire nation. Other secrets like the so-called "Big Brother" plans to spy on all Americans from within or the recently discovered "Fast and Furious" plot are directly and deliberately harmful to the nation and its people and must be exposed and eradicated at every opportunity.

Blind trust of any group or organization wielding massive powers, while seemingly an idealistic symbol of loyalty, is an excellent way to be duped into a world with no freedom where your every move is monitored, your life is in constant danger, and your entire existence is controlled by a few who hold all the power. I am not advertising sedition, overthrow, treason or disloyalty by saying these things. I am simply telling you that while you must respect the government and strive to elect officials into it who will work for the best interests of you and your country, you must also see that it does not become so overwhelmingly powerful that it breaks free of all control and rampages through your rights as an American citizen.
