Episode 3 killed it for me cause almost everyone of any importance died or exiled themselves. In anwser to your question, 4. Original almost always the best.
Episode 5, the Empire Strikes Back, is widely regarded as the best of the series. I don't know if I agree, but it did get the highest critical acclaim. I have always liked all of the original trilogy pretty much equally. I do know many people dislike Return of the Jedi because of the Ewoks. Something about little bears with spears beating guys with laser guns seems unrealistic somehow....

And Wookies are realistic?
I would have to say that the original ones are the best.
1. New Hope(original, without it there would be no Star Wars 2. Return of the Jedi(the Ewoks are amazing, without them the Empire would not have been beaten) 3. Empire Strikes Back(seemed slow to me)

[/quote] They use blasters, crossbows, and complex machinery instead of pointy sticks.
If we compare the Wookies to Ewoks with real examples: Wookies are more like modern African tribes with access to modern weapons; Ewoks are more like South American tribes in the 1500s who met Europeans.

I whole heartedly agree. And to everyone who is saying that Star Wars by it's nature isn't a realistic movie (Wookies, space ships, swords made of light etc.) movies need to be realistic in their established reality. In a universe where people have the force, blasters and giant lasers that blow up planets how can a few spears and rock throwing catapults beat advanced weaponry? It's not a bad movie, and it's not as offensive as Jar-Jar Binks, but it's not the best of the original trilogy.
Episode 1 and 2 were God awful. Seriously, George Lucas ruined his own franchise, which, although it wasn't an original idea, ships in space and everything, was arguably the one of the most popular movie series' of all time. When Star Wars came out, I wasn't alive, but I heard every movie theater was completely packed just to see it. Anyway, 1 and 2 sucked. 3 was a little bit better, but 4 and 5 are the best. I enjoyed 6, but it's on the level of 3, in my opinion.
