I couldn't decide on which place to put this in (tavern, WEPRE) so I put it here hoping I would get well thought out answers and debates among each other. My question is, if you could turn all the deserts into basicly seas(so putting water ontop of the sand), do you think it would be benificial?
So that would mean Antartica is a desert too. And a lot of the north pole, alaska ect... seems like a bad idea to me.
Well I thought at least one person would see it as a good idea, actualy I think puting more water in the cold places wouldn't effect it much. But one thing I thought people would notice is that if you made the sand deserts into seas, that could flood into other places.
I'd rather turn it into, you know, land where a heavy percentage of life can use it and not just the desert resistant organisms, or reversing the damage caused to it. This is also essentially a more, err, simpler plan than putting water on top of sand. Sorry, can you elaborate how this would be beneficial?
There are actually things living in the desert, you know. Arguing for them and for ecosystem diversity, it would definitely not be beneficial. Now, I'm curious as to how exactly you thought flooding deserts could be beneficial.
Regardless of human effects, desertification would happen, also I'm fairly sure that deserts play a significant role in the global ecosystem, typically the kind of thing you don't want to mess with.

Maybe it has something to do w/ the people who don't have water in those areas. Personally, I'd rather get them to move somewhere else or dig wells where possible.

I think it might have more organisms there if water was in the desert, there would no longer be practicly a unsurvivable place, no more weapon testing.
Wouldn't the ocean water level go down? If they take water from the ocean and channel it into the desert, the ground absorbs it.
I'm not saying the humans would do it, im saying it just happens, no explamation.

Well I thought you guys would think about those stories about people getting stuck in deserts and dying out there, an how if you just turned it into a sea with high dunes sticking up, it wouldn't be as much of a problem, now it would screw up the roads there though, oh and Grand Canyon will then be underwater prolly. But I think if there was to be water there, there would be even more of an ecosystem, right now it is pretty much barren with some tough animals surviving.

Right, and no one has ever died on the ocean.

Deserts have a reputation for supporting very little life, but in reality deserts often have high biodiversity, including animals that remain hidden during daylight hours to control body temperature or to limit moisture needs. Some fauna includes the kangaroo rat, coyote, jack rabbit, and many lizards. These animals adapted to live in deserts are called xerocoles.
Anyway, most of the world's surface is already covered by water, so the fishies already have homes, but if you removed the deserts, all these species would be left without any habitat at all.
Do you really not think these species should have somewhere to live as well?
Can you say no to this face?
Besides, I fail to see how the deserts turning into oceans would be beneficial.
In today's time, it has gotten quite a bit harder to, but in the desert, there's no distrees signal, sometimes no phone service, onstar wont help you, people wont go by for days sometimes.
I beg to differ
You got me on that one, but since they don't care enough to be on television programs FLOOD THEM ALL!

They could live in zoos, but I always feel so badly for animals in there, so maybe they could migrate to one of the islands from the flood?
Can you say no to this face?
that's a trick question...
