I 100% HAVE to go with rock. Rap songs are all about violence, drugs and other awful stuff and how to do it. ROCK, on the other hand is the same thing, only how to DEAL with it. Also, for those people who have an ignorant stereotype about how Rock is just screaming, keep it to yourself, for I ban ignorant people from this contest. So, give reasons about how one side is better than the other side.

Im sorry, John but some of Eminem's song's are about drugs and violence.

Drugs: Maybe Purple Pills.

Violence: Maybe Like Toy Soldiers.

In rock i'll choose: Linkin Park and Three Days Grace
In rap i'll choose: Me, and Jay-Z maybe there are more but i can't remember.

That's not the question.

I think the problem is both of these genres worst representatives are all about glorifying a lifestyle (Rap: Drugs, sex, and gangs - Rock: Drugs, groupies, private jets), and not actually addressing issues and themes in their music.

I like Rock better, because that's the sort of environment I was raised in. I couldn't care less about boring bands with that Modern Rock sound (e.g. Nickelback). Classic Rock like Bruce Springsteen, and U2, as well as new bands that carry on that tradition - like Gaslight Anthem - are my favorites.

Rap is different because I only am exposed to the dumb, popular rappers, and don't care enough to find the good stuff. I will say I like Lupe Fiasco, though.

To each his own. Rap may be about violence, sex and drugs, but rock can be too. Rap can be about raw emotion and rock can be too. Generalization just narrows your willingness to open up to new types of music.

Personally, I listen to both, I certainly favour rock more, but I don't think either side is mutually exclusive.

To solve this problem, I prefer to combine both genres when listening to Rap/Rock music, hence my list of genre-mashup-songs! =)

What about :

# Run D.M.C. feat. Aerosmith - Walk This Way

# Public Enemy feat. Anthrax - Bring The Noise

# Faith No More & Boo-Yaa TRIBE - Another Body Murdered

# Ozzy Osbourne feat. Busta Rhymes - This Means War

These always works for me!

Rap songs are all about violence, drugs and other awful stuff and how to do it[quote]

Violence and Drugs is what all the Mainstream Cats listen To. You rely to Much on the Media to influence You and choose Your music. Anyone ever heard of Run-Dmc & Aerosmith Make a Collab? Pretty Sure You have. Idk this forum is called Rap Vs Rock. It should be Rap & Rock. Any ignorant Person could say "Rock is only about cutting Yourself, and Gettin Drunk with groupies" But No! People Judge Music by its Mainstream Artits. You should actually listen to more rap or Rock before You judge about it.

I know that rock has a lot in common with rock- just not that much. And as I said earlier, I like 80s rap. A lot. I just have to go to rock.

I prefer listening to rock. Occasionally, I'll listen to rap, but mainly when I am just bored. I'll listen to rock just for pure contentment.

I'm not a huge fan of rap, but that's an ignorant stereotype saying all of it is about violence and drugs. Try Lupe Fiasco for example.

I think this thread might be older, but that's just because the OP has '10 in the year section of the date and the OP in this one has an '11.

Yodadude is right. Lupe, Pitbull, Tinie Tempah (i have no idea how to spell his name =P), etc., and even the people you would assume rap all about drugs and violence don't always do. There isn't one rapper that ONLY sings about drugs and violence.
