Methinks Beckenbauer earned a recommendation for a medal for when he used hand to hand combat to take out all of the Americans without killing them. Heiskanen got a recommendation too, for breaking Richthofen's nose and commandeering the AA gun(Wagner and Beckenbauer may have slipped this one into Richthofen's outgoing mail pile without him knowing xD).

I think you mean gold. Black was the lowest form of the medal.
