So many religions promise eternal life in their heavens for those who are true beleivers. Wouldn't this be a curse rather than a blessing?
We as humans today live as long as a little over a century. We are talking infinite here!
You live 1,000 years. Another million after that. Another billion after that. Another TRILLION after that. FOREVER
Even if it was the greatest paridise imaginable as so-called heaven is, after some time wouldn't you long for an end? It would be not long until you would become miserable; you would do everything you ever would want to do, and have nothing left. Then you would just continue to live and live and live, without any purpose, goals, or anything.
This does NOT sound like something I would want to have. I think it may as well be one of the WORST curses to be put upon a human soul. What do you think?

So I made the comparison to life. It seems very important now. But if it truly ends as just a memory, then what's the point? It can't keep value if there is no one to value it.
Well, for as long as you are alive, you value it. Then when you're not alive, you won't know it because you're dead. So, your life has meaning to you and those close to you.
what about death? Wouldn't that suck as well?

The point is in the here and now. That's what I keep telling you. Just as the meal had value to it, it didn't become pointless to eat because it ended. Instead the fact it was finite enhanced the point of having it and just like the meal having it all the time would be what makes it pointless. With eternal life it would eventually feel pointless. The value of such a life is diminished.

I think I get what you mean. If there's an abundance of something its not really special and doesn't have too much value. But when its limited there's more value to it. Right? I guess so. But is rather live eternity with little value, then to live a short time with extreme value.

The only thing I'll regret never seeing is our traveling to the stars. I highly doubt it will come in my lifetime. How sad.
Other than that, life is a petty curse in itself. Pain, fear, loss, and despair are pretty commonplace. The only thing worth missing is the fun of it all.
I would love to have eternal life. Of course only if I wasn't stuck in a prison like heaven or hell. So i could explore the universe forever. And if matter ever dies, it would't affect me because I would already be dead. Of course living in complete darkness forever would kinda suck, unless I have people to talk to.

I wouldn't want immortality, I would just want to live much, much longer than the standard human lifespan of 80 years. A nice 500. Enough to see a large expanse in the ever-growing legacy of mankind, enough to witness a large amount of history and live to anecdote it. Of course down the line, I would feel my life slipping by and may choose to be selfish again. So maybe I would, instead of immortality, have the ability to manually end my life when anything else cannot. That way, I can live until I decide not to.

I think eternal life besides heaven or hell can be a nice thing. But I wouldn't want eternal life forever but for a nice time. Like another 390 years from now. So I could see the development in gaming, computers, the environment, global warming, things in space (maybe a live able building on a planet) and more like that.
But of course I want to stay 18 forever. Because I wouldn't want to be 390 years.
Well I think that this depends on if we're talking about true immortality, or if we're talking about just not being affected by age. If it's true immortality then I would love it! If it's the latter then no I'm sorry I would just die...
I really don't think that it would be a curse, but shouldn't be taken lightly if you could be immortal.
Now this also depends if you have alternative means of becoming immortal such as vampires or werewolves. Then I wouldn't want to be immortal because it would be lame.
Unless you were a complete and total loner, it would be a curse to see loved ones die. That's the problem with immortality. You live forever, but you lose all that you love at some point.

Unless you love the pyramids, plastic, or any religious idea. Those will probably last for a very long time. True not forever but you wouldn't have to worry about losing them anytime soon, if at all. This gives you time to love other things as well.
I just had an idea... What about the end of the world? This whole Super Nova incident that will happen a couple of billion years from now would really screw up your day. Also I guess I didn't take into consideration other forms of torment like if you did come out of the Super Nova still immortal then facing the vast coldness of space would probably screw with the next few million years of your life...

Well immortality on earth might suck... Unless you were an immortal that couldn't feel pain. Then it could be cool. You know, as long as someone doesn't bury you alive or lock you in a safe. Then it'll be hell.
Nevermind. I realized that no matter what you do, you will either end up roaming deep space for years, get stuck on a star or some other planet (most likly void of life) for years, or get dumped into a black hole, which is no fun either. Eventually you will wait until the universe dies put. No matter what, in the end you will lose. Immprta;ity in heaven seems better to me.
