Aliens, aliens, aliens....strange little creatures. Could they exist? Why would they exist? What exactly is an alien, and to who is the alien? Are we the aliens in this world? Imagine the Earth WITH "aliens." Aliens are simply outsiders, or something different. Deer could be aliens, buffalo could be aliens, molecules could be aliens. They're all different, but they all have one thing in common: they aren't intellgent. And it is what it is. Not that they are stupid, just not.....smart. What if aliens visited Earth? What would you think of them. Even so, perhaps cats could be intelligent creatures. (makes me think of Thundercats, eh?)
Life with cats. Just think of it. A strange univers this would be. "Honey, you forgot to clean your litterbox!" It scars me a little, actually. Cats going to school, running for president, working, or perhaps typing this right now. Maybe to cats, WE'RE cats. Maybe they DON'T accept us, but because they aren't intelligent, they can't show, say, or act what they are trying to get to.
Now, the main point of this thread. Adapting aliens into our world would be an interesting....and distrubing experience. Many people thought of African Americans as "aliens" during segregation times. Maybe cute little green men would be aliens. Maybe at school, your best friend is an alien, or maybe at work, your co-worker is an alien. I would accept them, but it would take time. However, time is something the human race doesn't have. In a matter of time we won't be here anymore. However, only time will tell what shall happen.
Now, how would you react to aliens coming to Earth. Would you accept them?
But if they're a race, who only seeks to exchange knowledge, then yes, I would have no problem accepting them. Although there might be some conflict depending on moral values, societal structure, governmental structure, etc.
This. Diplomacy always wins hands down; peace is the ultimate gift.
2) To colonize new planets and harvest resources from them - In this case, it would depend if they are benevolent or not and whether they can effectively use Earth as their own planet (Able to breath the atmosphere, survive temperature, etc)
There is the possibility they would only be interested in only harvesting resources. In which case the survivability of the planet to them might not make much of a difference.
If they aliens are hostile, evil, and wicked....I would totally fight back. But if they only seek knowledge and diplomacy on our planet, I would accept them. However, that doesn't stop other people from murdering them...
well if anyone has watched war of the world we obviously dont have to worry about aliens since after they kill 90% of our population, they will simply die from our germs in an hour.
Depends, are they hell bent on enslaving us and turning our planet into a hellhole? Then no, I would fight with every fiber of my being.
I think humans have already done a good job of screwing up the earth, don't you? :P
Anyways, who's to say these "aliens" would be able to live in the same environment as us? I'd think that since most of the nearby star systems to ours are dual-star systems and not necessarily "yellow" stars (they also might be helium breathing organisms versus oxygen breathing which would cause for any helium breathing aliens not to want to come to earth), any nearby aliens (if we have any) would not want to come here. Thus any aliens that would come here would probably have to be one from a similar type of planet/ solar system/ atmosphere and would be one in a place unusual (just like our solar system) and also (in all likelihood) very far away from us.
Yes I would accept them, even if we go to war. Unless ALL of the aliens want us humans dead, then I don't see why We should hate them. Remember, just because aliens are attacking us, it doesn't necessarily mean that all the aliens or even the majority agree on attacking humans.

The moon wasn't ideal, yet we still explored it and we want to place a permanent base on it. Same thing with Mars. Heck, some people seriously think that it would be possible to turn Mars into a planet like earth. And this is with human knowledge. So why can't the aliens do this to earth. Also,i'm not a 100% sure that all the systems beside ours are double star.
To me, it's all about first contact. We have to make a good impression on them so they won't kill us all. Honestly, if they just want to welcome us into some sort of intergalactic U.N. of sorts, I'm all for it. If they've come to kill us... well resistance isn't exactly futile.
That might be how we treat them, or we might just tell them to get off of Earth. . .
I wouldn't treat 'creatures' that are probably more intelligent than us by far like how they did in District 9... If they can pilot a ship that big with ease, I doubt it's smart to mess with them
I say we should leave a good impression, be friendly, but cautious. Who knows what kind of weaponry they can have, it could probably obliterate us in a matter of minutes, or seconds even
