I've been thinking about this for a while now. atheists don't believe in a deity of any kind, and therefore see no reason to listen to any religious doctrine. it also occured to me that they also don't believe in life after death. so my question to any atheist who reads this is: what is the meaning of life?

when I say this I mean why are we living, and sentient beings, if there is no real reason to be one?

(I would appreciate it if my fellow religious people here didn't post on here just to give their religion's meaning of life)

Back to the main topic.

My meaning of life as an atheist has two parts.

Part 1) Experience as many things as possible. I know I will die one day and my time to do all the things I want to do will be over. So the idea is to live in the now. I try to make my mark on the ones I love and care about and to do as many things that are enjoyable for me as possible.

Part 2) A lasting positive affect on mankind. To do something good for the advancement of the human race. I mean I'm not a scientist so I'm not increasing our species' knowledge of the universe or anything. I'm an electrician. I help build homes and give families electricity which they will use on a daily basis. I give them a better quality of life. Now sure if I didn't exist someone else would do it, but if no electricians existed then it wouldn't happen.

In my mind. I am just like an ant in the colony, but with the exception that I have the ability to enjoy other activities. And I'm happy with that.

Nice. You spoke for me. I'll post mine, though:

1) Have fun, because there is no second life and you're free of all religious barriers. I'm going to do all kinds of stuff that just sounds like fun. I'll go snowboarding, surfing, and all that stuff.
