I've been thinking about this for a while now. atheists don't believe in a deity of any kind, and therefore see no reason to listen to any religious doctrine. it also occured to me that they also don't believe in life after death. so my question to any atheist who reads this is: what is the meaning of life?
when I say this I mean why are we living, and sentient beings, if there is no real reason to be one?
(I would appreciate it if my fellow religious people here didn't post on here just to give their religion's meaning of life)

have fun while it lasts. 1 life is all you have.

no there is no meaning for life. the planets and the univers will also be there whitout life. humans are just animels. has the life of a fish a meaning? or is his meaning to be eaten by humans? then why are they eating eatchother aswell?

To enjoy oneself and help create a better world for one's decendants/family/friends.
Although that may be construed more as a purpose...the actual, "meaning" would be there is no meaning, it just exists and should be taken advantage of to its fullest.
when I say this I mean why are we living, and sentient beings, if there is no real reason to be one?
Aside from the obvious answer, I agree with Kasic. It's more a purpose in life, rather than an actual meaning. But yes, helping to create a better world for those that'll follow us.
Why do religious people think we believe our lives to be meaningless? We don't lack direction. It's just different from yours.
Humans are capable of finding other purposes in life other than by a religious means. The most universal purpose in all life, I suppose, is the continuation of the species' legacy. Each individual can find their own purpose in life; it doesn't have to be astronomically important either.
I agree with what the others have said, granted the prospect of simply not existing anymore is somewhat terrifying, but you make the best of the situation until it happens, no sense in dreading what's to come.
I always thought that life was just to live it to the fullest extent, which is why I'm trying to figure out how to extend my lifespan... you only get one life so why not to to drag it out as long as possible?
[...]atheists don't believe in a deity of any kind, and therefore see no reason to listen to any religious doctrine.
Just because a person does not believe in a deity, does not mean they can't have their opinion of what the meaning of life is
And also, this question doesn't have a definite answer, and I honestly think that if anyone argues with another's statement, it's pretty stupid. This is just a topic with opinions, and maybe even philosophies
For me, the meaning of life is to enjoy as much as possible, never look back to the past and never try to foresee the future, what happened has happened and what will also will happen. We can try to control the path of our lives, but I think that would render useless in the end
Meaning that an atheist doesn't live for the goal of many religious people which is a place in paradise (Heaven) atheists tend to make their life as meaningful as they can on Earth where it is needed.
The meaning of life to enjoy yourself and to be happy and do what you wanna do before you die and have no place just infinite darkness. That's what the meaning of life is...
wow lol that was soooo shallow and close minded. you think that atheists have no meaning of life? and that every religios persons meaning of life has something to do with his religion? you sound as if theists are better then atheists and id like to direct you to a different thread in the tavern called: the meaning of life.
you might learn there that all humans exist. even those who arent religios
