OT: I believe I heard somewhere that we (the community) are supposed to be getting some information on Microsoft and Sony's new consoles at E3 2012, and we're projected to be fully immersed in the 8th generation by 2015, 10 years after the Xbox 360 originally came out, at max.

I'm glad you asked! Now imagine a person who NEVER bought an XBOX or PS (meaning he used to play Nintendo consoles),he'd go to a gaming store to buy any one of them,and then he'd see the 2 opposing consoles and be all like:
Hmm. which one should i buy?PS3,hmm..XBOX 2?(if it wasn't named 360)there's a 3 so i'll go with PS3 because they have probably updated better

I just hope when they do make new consoles they make them all with backwards compatibility. I'd also like if the disc dray of the Xbox 360 was like the PS3's where it takes the game in and you press a button for it to come out, instead of how it is now and your games occasionally getting damaged.
Actually the next iteration of the Xbox and Playstation will most likely be coming sooner than most people think. I would bet that both would be coming out next year. Hopefully the next Xbox won't be a piece of garbage at launch though, and hopefully they can make disc trays or system that actually last. I have to open my xbox disc tray with a pen half the time...

Consider the marketing stratagies though. PS3 still needs to work on their new PSP, and not many games are made to handle what Microsoft and Sony are adding into their new systems. Plus, people are still buying the current systems. You don't fix what is not broken...yet.
Well xbox720 would be great news, but I heard rumor (not varified) that new Microsoft's console's name is going to be KINECT+. I really hope it's just lie.
I don't really care what it's called if it has all the things many people want to see in the new consoles. As long as it isn't mainly focused on motion gaming like the Wii is I'm fine with it.
