The combinations are unlimited. There is 26 letters in the alphabet (besides the hyphens and underlines and stuff), an unlimited amount of numbers.
10,000 4 digit usernames can be created from the numbers 0-9. (That includes zero)
If each username was 9 digits long, and you were using leading zeros, there would be over 1,000,000,000 combinations. (Without the leading zeros, there would still be over 900,000,000)

This is a completely pointless thread. I doubt this is any major worry at the moment, with only 1,700,000 users on the site.
If it happens, I doubt it will happen before 2012. If that ever happens, though, they would probably take all the old users that don't go on anymore and let them use their usernames. Or the perma-banned.
I really doubt that can happens, there way too many possibilities of usernames, people can just create names out of their imagination as well and there is the usual deletion of inactive users + bans to be accounted in.
It can happens but it would take forever, and I mean.. FOREVER. Also, they can just increase the character-limit for name by one each time, just one more character can allows for many, many more usernames.

Yeah, considering there are ove a 100x more username combonations than people on the planet(or anything on the planet for that matter), I think we should be able to hold out a few more months(give or take billion years)
