It's only wrong in the eyes of religious people when religious people of their religion, who's religions tell them to not speak blasphemy about their god, speak blasphemy about their god. Nobody else cares about wether or not other religions do it or not, aside from extremists.
no its not wrong. its part of what you believe is right and people should be able to talk about their opinions.
and its a pretty subjective matter since extremists can see pretty much everything as blasphemy. if we couldnt say anything about other religions/gods we probably just wouldnt talk to each other and i think thats worse
There is nothing wrong with Blasphemy. It doesn't hurt anyone and people should have the right to say and think what they want. If a religious person can say I think you're going to hell. Then someone not of their religion should be allowed to say, I think thats stupid.
Yeah but then there's nothing wrong with racism... and quite frankly there is a lot wrong with racism.
Skin colour is a fact of someone's biology - you're born with it and, unless you tan or bleach your skin or something, you can't change it. Religion, however, and religious beliefs - they're more 'add-in' characteristics. They're something that people choose and can change - blasphemy is merely akin to saying something that offends hipsters or vegetarians and nothing like making fun of someone because of the colour of their skin.
Maybe you should remind people that you shouldn't use religion as an "excuse".
Well anyway, it will depend. If you believe in God, then obviously blasphemy would be a sin. If you were non religious or athiest, then most likely it wouldn't be bad.
Blasphemy (from websters online) 1 a : the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for God b : the act of claiming the attributes of deity
2: irreverence toward something considered sacred or inviolable
I find 1b particularly interesting when put up against the concept of being made in God's image.
Blasphemy, the fabric of heresy, and the seed of religious divergence.
it is an interesting concept from a logical standpoint. every religion claims blasphemy is wrong, but few people seem to remember the fact that blasphemy was what started their religion in the first place. if it wasn't for such a concept, many of the worlds most popular religions today would never exist.
it's even more ironic that religions that were based off blasphemy says it's wrong to do so.
as far as i'm concerned, blasphemy could provide a fresh prospective to something old and outdated. the blasphemy will do one of three things:
1.die off before anything happens. 2.Update the religion to accomodate the blasphemer. 3.create a new religion similar to the one it came from, except for the beliefs that the blasphemer didn't approve.
