This thread is just what the title says it is. It is all about Math. You can post math jokes(the jokes don't have to be good), math questions, what you like about Math, or even why you hate Math.

My math joke: Resistance is not futile. It is voltage divided by amps.

But why would you want it to be half open?

Gab pretty much answered it.

closed = 0
half open = 1
fully open = 2

grammar can b optional but actually its not

Math is fun because it's difficult. Makes you use your brain.

You failed with the grammar as well... xD Well, my topic of Ternary went pretty well. *Thinks of a good math topic* *Fails to think up a good math topic* D:

How about that Pi is a rational number.I say this because of Pi's Fayman Point, a sequence of six 9s that begins at the 762nd decimal place of the decimal representation of Ï.

Hey, zakyman, do you have any math riddles to post? :P

Totally lost track of my post, sorry for the delay.

Here is the riddle...

1
11
21
1211
111221
312211
13112221
1113213211

What is the next term?

(This is more of a logic puzzle than one with a mathematical pattern)

Sorry for the double post but...

That's easy. .99999=/=1. .9999 only equals one if you round to the digit. But even then, it does not equal 1.

.99999999... for infinity DOES equal one. There are several mathematical proofs for this...

First, find a number between .99999999... and 1. I dare you

Second, if 1/3 is equal to .333333...., 2/3 is equal to .666666666..., than doesn't 3/3 equal .99999999..., and since 3/3 equals one, than .9999999999... equals 1.

And the grand finale....

x=.9999...

10x=9.999999...

10x-x=9.99999...

9x=9

x=1

That's easy. .99999=/=1.

ikr. I'm on that side of the argument, but every teacher tells me .9999...=1

... What?

A number divided by 0.

0? Infinity?

hat doesn't seem algebraicly logical. Where did the '-x' come from? And how did you get '9x=9'?

the "-x" is x being subtracted. the "9x=9" is a result of .99999....(which is x), being subtracted from 10x (which is 9.99999...)

Therefor 9x=9, and x=1

But no matter how many 9s you tack on, there will never equal 1.

Yes, however if there is not a number between the two, that makes them the same number.

The number is infinitely large, yes, but that does not mean that there is a limit. There isn't a maximum amount of numbers, you can still add 1 to an infinitum amount.

What? That confuses me...

btw, the riddle that I promised is on the previous page.

Does infinite officially begin at the point where we no longer have names for large numbers?
I know google is a number followed by 100 zeros...
